Disney decided to remake The Little Mermaid. Here’s the first trailer with the new Ariel:

The Little Mermaid | Official Teaser Trailer

Out of the sea, wish I could be… part of that world. Disney’s The Little Mermaid is coming to theaters May 26, 2023. “The Little Mermaid,” visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall’s live-action reimagining of the studio’s Oscar®-winning animated musical classic, opens exclusively in theaters nationwide May 26, 2023.

She’s a very pretty girl. She’s talented and this should have been a wonderful experience for her and her career.

Unfortunately, the racists have really come out of the cracks denouncing this remake. YouTube had to turn off the “like” button because the video racked up 1.5 MILLION dislikes upon release. Even if some/a lot of that / might have been created by a bot a racist set up, it’s not all that. White people have been going off the rails about it on social media.

There is a positive side to this. In backlash, social media is now being flooded with videos parents of black and brown girls have taken showing how much their kids are digging the new Ariel.

Ms. Bailey did respond to the backlash, saying she doesn’t pay attention to the negativity.

What a smart, classy young lady. I look forward to watching her career take off.

Thank you for reading today's post. Have an InterStellar Day! ~PrP

There’s a lot to unpack here.

I’ll have to take a wee bit of time to formulate a thoughtful response. It’s a chaotic season but when I have had the proper time to address it I shall.

Times have changed a little, the Little Mermaid could have had this experience:

A 15 year old girl starts her first day at school. She is met by her fellow students and many of their parents, who jeer at her, call her names, throw garbage and rocks at her. Girls, encouraged by their parents, spit on her.

Dorothy Counts was one of the first black students admitted to the Harry Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of the initial effort to desegregate schools in that city. She endured four days of insults from students and staff. Not one adult stood up for her. When law enforcement was alerted to the threats being made to her and her family, they responded that they couldn’t guarantee her safety. Unlike in Little Rock, where a federalized National Guard and 1,000 army paratroopers enforced the court order to desegregate, there was no protection for Dorothy. For a short time, Dorothy was optimistic; “If they just get to know me,” she told her parents, “they’ll like me.”

But the threats became more violent. The Counts’ family car was vandalized. So Dorothy withdrew from Harding High and went to live with her aunt and uncle in Yeadon, Pennsylvania to finish her sophomore year, where she attended an integrated public school. She eventually returned to Charlotte and enrolled in Johnson C. Smith University, where she earned her degree in Psychology in 1964.

No matter how long it lives, the Greatest Lion will eventually die miserably. That’s the world.

At their Peak, they rule, chase other animals, catch, devour, gulp and leave their crumbs for hyenas. But age comes fast.

The old Lion can’t hunt, can’t kill or defend itself. It roams and roars until it runs out of luck. It will be cornered by the hyenas, nibbled at and eaten alive by them. They won’t even let it die before it is dismembered.

Life is short. Power is ephemeral. Physical beauty is short-lived, I have seen it in lions. I have seen it in old people. Everyone who lives long enough will become weak and very vulnerable at some point.

Therefore, let us be humble. Help the sick, the weak, the vulnerable and most importantly never forget that we will leave the stage one day.

    JOKE:

Bill wakes up at home with a huge hangover.
He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table.

He sits down and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed.

Bill looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless, and clean.

So’s the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins and notices a note on the table “Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love you.”

So he goes to the kitchen and sure enough, there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper.

His son is also at the table, eating.

Bill asks, “Son, what happened last night?”

His son says, “Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and delirious.

Broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door.”

Confused, Bill asks, “So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?”

His son replies, “Oh that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off you said, “Lady leave me alone, I’m married!”

Sometime in the late 40’s, before either man was famous, Frank Sinatra appeared in a theater in New York. After his show he went to Harlem to see the Will Maston Trio led by a young Sammy Davis Jr. Frank was blown away by Sammy’s talent and after the show he asked Sammy to come see his show.

A week goes by. No Sammy. Sinatra went back to Harlem to see the Will Maston Trio again and asked. Sammy why he didn’t show. Sammy said he was there but they wouldn’t let him in. Frank stormed back to the theater, tore up his contract in front of them, and never performed there again. That would be a common theme during the course of their friendship and careers. When Sammy wasn’t allowed to play at the Copacabana, Frank wouldn’t play there either.

When Sammy was refused a Las Vegas hotel room, Frank said, “Give him my room!” After Sammy’s car accident where he lost his eye, it was Sinatra who paid all his medical bills. After 5 decades and 40 years of performing together, a reporter once asked Frank why he was always so charitable to Sammy. Frank responded in three words, “He’s my brother.”

I like Lana Turner because she said:
      Turner

“A gentleman is just a patient wolf.”

“I started off wanting one husband and seven children, but it ended up being the other way around.”

“I find men terribly exciting, and any girl who says she doesn’t is either an anemic old maid, a streetwalker, or a saint.”

“It’s said in Hollywood that you should always forgive your enemies, because you never know when you’ll have to work with them.”

And, finally, in reference to her brief marriage to band leader and control freak Artie Shaw: “One day I just asked myself what am I doing under that man?”

Check out her spot-on femme fatale role in The Postman Always Rings Twice opposite John Garfield. She was a fine actress in addition to being a notable wit.

What is the best spoken line in any movie?

There is a scene in Man of Steel in which a young Clark Kent first discovers his powers. He is in elementary school, and the teacher asks him a simple question. Right in the moment, all of his senses triggers at once.

Suddenly, he sees not just people appearance, but their insides, bones, and organs. He hears even the faintest noise far, far away. Overwhelmed with all the impressions, Clark runs away and hides.

A few minutes later, the whole class is gathered outside the supply closet. Clark locks himself inside. Eventually, his mom arrives on the scene. At first, he isn’t willing to let her in.

Clark cries and screams helplessly – “Mom, The world is too big for me to fight.”

Then, Martha Kent shares a piece of advice that could only ever make sense coming from a loving, compassionate mother:

“Then, make it small son, make it small.”

” Honey, Just focus on my voice. Pretend it’s an island, out in the ocean. Can you see it?”

    “I see it.”

    “Then swim towards it honey.”

Once he concentrated on the one thing right in front of him- his mom, Clark calmed down and left the closet. If you want to be happy, you must focus on one thing at a time.

In our modern world, Clark Kent isn’t the only one who is hypersensitive. It’s all of us.

Social media, the internet, our state of constant connection – we share and communicate so much, we too can see other people insides . Their thoughts, feelings and wishes. We create a lot of noise when we share these things and we can hear the noise of others even if they make it faraway.

The world is too big. There is too much of everything. To many projects to tackle. Too many people to meet. Too many places to go, shows to watch, messages to answer and books to read.

Often, sadness is overhelm in disguise. We know we can never live it all. Someone will be always disappointed with their choices. Even if it’s just ourselves.

Don’t worry about the vastness out there. It does nothing for you. Just remember to make the world small according to your comfort.

When you feel overwhelmed, take a moment. Breathe. Calm down. Get quiet inside your mind.

Home your senses. Focus. Zoom in one the one thing that matters. One voice. One task. One minute. Do it again and again.

Yes it’s true. The world is too big. But there’s always enough room for you. You can carve out own your space. Find your island. Make it small. And then swim towards it.
