In the Sept. 21 interview with [Sean] Hannity, Trump indicated that there should be no concern about taking classified documents to Mar-a-Lago. He said that\u2019s because when he was president, he had the power to declassify documents at will \u2014 without having to document that decision or go through any formal steps to coordinate with executive branch agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s the exchange:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannity<\/strong>: “OK, you have said on Truth Social a number of times you did declassify \u2014”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/strong>: “I did declassify.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannity<\/strong>: “OK. Is there a process? What was your process to declassify?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/strong>: “There doesn’t have to be a process, as I understand it. You know, there’s \u2014 different people say different things, but as I understand there doesn’t have to be. If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying it’s declassified. Even by thinking about it, because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago or to wherever you’re sending it. And there doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president, you make that decision. So when you send it, it’s declassified. I declassified everything.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
