The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty filed a lawsuit against Biden’s student forgiveness program because “it violates federal law by narrowing the racial wealth gap and helping black borrowers.” Yup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

28. As part of the justification for this plan, Defendants announced an explicit racial motivation. The Student Debt Relief Plan is motivated by a desire to \u201cadvance racial equity\u201d and \u201cnarrow the racial wealth gap.\u201d To achieve equity, the plan, according to the White House, is \u201cmore likely\u201d to help \u201cBlack students,\u201d \u201cBlack borrowers,\u201d and \u201cother borrowers of color.\u201d See White House, Fact Sheet, supra. The White House favorably cited the Urban Institute, which claims that Defendants\u2019 chosen student loan forgiveness plan will \u201cdisproportionately benefit Black borrowers\u201d and would be \u201cfar more racially progressive than broad forgiveness.\u201d Urban Institute, A More Targeted Approach to Student Loan Forgiveness (April 12, 2021).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
