I may have mixed up names in the below as I heard the story two days ago. Please forgive the naming.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had a conversation recently about “Steven.” Steven is an AB living his best human life. He has been living with “Julia” for about 4 years. He recently told Julia that he was an “illegal alien.” She apparently was none too happy about that, and she didn’t want to be involved with ICE and moved out on him. In the group of friends they shared, he was friends with “Horace.” Horace was dating “Emily.” Horace had spoken to Steven about Emily maybe being the one, and he was contemplating getting married. Of the female friends in the group, they noticed how Steven treated Julia and all thought he was a stand up guy. He was very well mannered. He never responded to their flirtations and he appeared to be solidly behind Julia. Once Julia moved out and the group became aware, Emily decided to approach Steven and asked him if maybe they could get together. She thought he treated Julia better than Horace treated her. She told him she would leave Horace if he said yes. Steven didn’t know what to do. This is when I learned of the situation. My advice was to tell Steven to tell Emily to pound sand<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven is friends with Horace. He knows of Horace’s intention to wed Emily. And, as his friend, I commented that he should not be breaking Horace’s heart. I used the term “bros before hos.”<\/strong> I pointed out that Emily was a “shit stirrer<\/strong>. ” If she were truly interested in Steven, she should be a woman. Break up with Horace cleanly, and only then approach Steven for a relationship. IMO she wanted her cake and to eat it too. <\/strong> She wanted to know if Steven was interested before she left Horace. That scenario places Steven in a situation that he would not find himself in as a true a gentleman. He would not naturally go behind his friend’s back. And that makes Emily manipulative and dishonest. I told him my understanding was, like there is a “girl code<\/strong>,” so it is for men as well, the “bro code”<\/strong>. In a nutshell, a member of the opposite sex should not divide a gender friendship. Emily was selfishly trying to place Steven in an untenable situation by not being out of a relationship while trying to enter another. She was asking Steven to dishonor his good friend Horace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second part was Steven may not realize that Julia thought he was an “illegal alien,” as in the way the US defines it, not an AB<\/em>. She commented about ICE which tells me she misunderstood him, and she did not know he was a true alien<\/em>. Nonetheless, she didn’t stand by him and he should not take her back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bros before Hos = “friendships taken precedence over the opposite sex”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shit Stirrer = someone intentionally sowing strife for others<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanting her cake and eating it too = she wants both sides at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
