The female appendage you never knew exist. Its a very small horseshoe-shaped network of tubules attached directly to the ovary. And its all over the news this week because …. men. I kid you not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was first described in humans in 1870. There were detailed drawings of it in Gray’s Anatomy<\/em>. But doctors didn’t understand it and could not find an immediate purpose for it in females, so they deemed it functionless and completely phased it out of modern anatomy textbooks. [1<\/a>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The male equivalent\u2014the rete testis<\/em>, which helps transport sperm inside the testicles\u2014has remained standard knowledge in medical curriculum for over a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, a study was published in eLife<\/em> <\/strong><\/a> where biologists studying the organ found that rather than being useless, the rete ovarii actively secretes protein-packed fluids, responds to hormonal changes, and communicates directly with the ovaries, but the study remained confined to academic and scientific circles until Hear Her Stories<\/strong><\/a> let the world know in a slide “Men deleted an organ from medical textbooks because they decided it was useless<\/em>.<\/a>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is very typical for the US. Women are second class citizens. Earlier this year the US was the only NO vote on a UN resolution for women’s rights.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
