the lovers holiday

Today is Valentines Day. I’m sharing sentiments with Ronita Lee, who wrote this poem about being alone on a couples’ holiday:

Today is Valentine’s Day,
A day to show a loved one you care,
But how can you hold them, kiss them, console them
When no one is even there?

Today is a day of us together
And not a second to be left apart,
But knowing today won’t bring those things
Continues to break my heart.

I know I’m supposed to be happy,
And I really look the part,
But how can I smile
And pretend that I’m happy
When a piece is missing from my heart?

Today won’t change the crying.
Today won’t change pain.
Today won’t change the fact
That heartache is now a part of my name.

Today for me is lonely.
Today for me is untrue.
Today for me is wishing
That once again I still had you.

But wishes are like fairy tales;
They rarely do come true,
So today is a day of loneliness
And me being sad and blue.

Today for you is laughing
Because to you, my love is a game,
So while you’re happy spending time with friends.
I’m left to drown in pain.

Today is not a day anymore.
It’s a waste of useless time.
Today for me is
Loneliness, heartache, crying, praying
That soon again you’d be mine.

The Black American running phenom, Sha’Carri Richardson was not allowed to even compete because she tested positive for pot–a drug not known for its perfomance-enhancing capabilities. Quite the opposite. Yet the White Russian gets to compete while using a known performance-enhancing drug. MMMMMMMM anyone else see the obvious difference???????

    • Laurel says:

What is truly ridiculous is the excuse they gave for how this drug got into her system. Her Grandfather takes it and they tried to claim it got into her system by exposure to something contaminated with his drug-the example was a glass that he may have drank out of and left saliva in and then she drank our of the same glass. Sure…that’s what happened……

      • Rebecca says:

She must have used the same dirty glass for months on end to become contaminated. Was grandpa spitting in the glass and if so how much spit did this cheater have to drink?

    • Jeff says:

The difference between Richardson’s case and Valieva’s case is that USADA disqualified Richardson from competing in the Olympics not the Court of Sports Arbitration. USADA is much tougher on US athletes than other anti-doping agencies in other countries (like Russia). Valieva is initally DQ’ed then reinstated by Russia and then the Court of Sports Arbitration allowed her to compete. Richardson never got to plea a case because of USADA. If anything, Richardson should focus more of her angry towards them because they took away her chance to compete at the Olympics not the IOC or the Court of Sports Arbitration. A bit of a difference.

  2. LeI says:

Those of you who took it upon yourselves to inform the Americans that Russia had been given the cyber keys to allow them to unencrypt the communications between military commanders in the field will be disciplined. No interference means no interference.

    • Nancy says:

Trump had already promised Ukraine to Putin as a Valentine gift because Ukraine did not pay his demand for a bribe.

  3. Robert says:

The Canadian truckers are being played by American Republicans trying to make a statement about vaccine mandates in America. They have armed many of them and are encouraging violence.

    • Jimmy says:

My God, ain’t that the truth.

“Michael Kempa, associate criminology professor at the University of Ottawa, has characterized the fight over vaccine mandates as a cover for a deeply authoritarian movement aimed at upending the rule of law and weakening the Canadian government.”

Republicans will do anything to start a like movement in America.

    • Ian says:

Breaking, Canadians have the weapons and arrested the last two of the group to make it 13 extremists.

One of the last two of the thirteen that they arrested today had a gun in the vehicle. Again, one of them tried to run over a police officer. No info on identification yet. The weapons were about 8 long guns, various pistols, and load of different type of ammunition, a machete and various other items.

The weapons were coming in from the States. The RCMP were informed a week ago or so about them and they followed them yesterday to where the guns were hidden and then moved in and arrested them. You know Alberta is sort of like Texas in the US only in a much smaller scale as far as right wing is concerned so it is not surprising it happened at the Alberta border.

      • Lois says:

This is why none of these protests are just about vaccines! There are groups funded by big money who are willing to ante up these protests if needed and whose only goals are to cripple nations! If someone would follow the money I bet a few familiar names would pop up!

    • Butler says:

Once again, the elements in the U.S. have their fingerprints on another nation’s business.

  4. Malcom says:

Those people who refuse to get vaccinated have costed this nation dearly and have benefited from those around them getting vaccinated, but for purely political reasons have refused to do their part.

  5. Ian says:

America is a weird country. If you commit a crime openly it is often not seen as a crime and you can get away without consequences. The American political system is openly corrupt with campaign finances, people/multi-national corporations openly bribe candidates by “donating money” towards their campaigns with the expectation of “favors”. In any other country this is known as bribery and corruption and is a criminal offence.
Murder is a crime in every country in the world but in America you can walk down the street brandishing an assault rifle, kill two people and injure a third all while being recorded and get away with it.
Joe Manchin has coal and pharmacological interests and openly maneuvers to benefit those interests for personal gain to the detriment of his state and the entire country… and it’s all legal.
Another weird thing, Manchin is a Republican in every way, by every definition and yet absurdly he is a member of the Democratic Party and defined as such.

  6. William says:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have proven she is more Pro-American, intelligent and accomplished more than Lauren Boebert or Marjorie Taylor Greene combined. Following the financial crisis of 2008, tragedy struck when her father passed away suddenly from cancer. The medical bills and other growing expenses placed their home at risk of foreclosure. Alexandria pulled extra shifts to work as a waitress and bartender to support her family, deepening her commitment to issues impacting working-class people. In January of 2019, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez was sworn-in as the youngest woman and youngest Latina ever to serve in Congress. Her first piece of legislation was the Green New Deal resolution, which envisions a 10-year national mobilization, akin to FDR’s New Deal, that would put millions to work in good-paying, union jobs repairing the nation’s infrastructure, reducing air and water pollution, and fighting the intertwined economic, social, racial and climate crises crippling the country.

    • Bob says:

AOC comes across as a strong articulate woman, while Josh Hawley sells coffee mugs with his traitorous fist bump painted on it.
      Night and day.

  7. Suzanne says:

So the cops in San Francisco don’t have the time to process thousands of backlogged rape kits. But they do have the time to arrest victims who most likely are still waiting for the horrific crime perpetuated against them. Our Justice system is so incredibly broken and most people don’t seem to really care. And nobody is doing anything about it.

    • Penelope says:

I wonder if men who get their cars stolen or are victims of robberies would be ok with having their DNA collected and stored for future use in the CRIMINAL database when they report the crime. The evidence collected in a rape kit is not evidence against the victim. If everyone who had a crime committed against them had their DNA collected and used in this way we wouldn’t be having this conversation. If rape victims know that by reporting the rape they would become a part of a criminal database a lot of folks will not report. I find it particularly insulting that in most cases cops can’t use DNA to find the rapist, cause most rapes are unsolved, but they add the victims DNA to the criminal database for future use. Cali gotta fix this.

    • Tessa says:

So, the police can’t process the backlog of rape kits to catch rapists, but they use victim DNA to link them to other crimes? No wonder Justice is blind, her eyes were gouged out.

    • Bob says:

“Police Chief Bill Scott told the Chronicle that he agrees that the issue Boudin raised is “sufficiently concerning” and said his staff is reviewing the matter.”
Code for: This will soon be forgotten and swept under the rug.

    • Ann says:

And people wonder where defund the police comes from. This is perhaps the sickest story of police misconduct yet

  8. Jennifer says:

This is horrendous, how anyone could think that this is a good idea is beyond me!
