221108 09:40 – have you voted?

My ballot got wet. But I was able to vote in person. I just turned in my soggy ballot that was mailed and they gave me a new ticket number and new ballot. Please VOTE today if you have not already.

221107 09:14 – Election Day Tomorrow!

It’s not too late to get your vote on and get your vote in. I’m the one that’s dropping it in the box on election day usually. You can still mail yours too – just make sure its postmarked no later than tomorrow.

All registered voters were mailed a ballot on October 10. Voters have three ways to return their ballots:

221105 11:05 – the sea pangolin

For all you Did You Know fans, I have one for you today.

Did You Know? In the Indian Ocean, deep beneath, about 1.5 miles and under crushing pressure and temperatures up in the 750 degree F range, there is a deep-sea scaly footed snail called the sea pangolin (Chrysomallon squamiferum). It lives around four hydrothermal vents, within a tiny space of about 0.1 square miles.

It is very rare, and very unique in that its shell is made up of iron sulfide, the only animal known to man that has created its own iron suit of armor. It is also believed it doesn’t really eat anything. It relies on energy produced from bacteria it hosts within a large gland.

Unfortunately, two of the hydrothermal vents where this little creature live have mining exploration licenses attached to them. While sea mining is not yet viable, mining companies are gearing up to extract metals and minerals from the vents, as they can have concentrations of gold, zinc, cobalt and lithium. That last item is a big component of EV batteries. About 500,000 square miles of seafloor have been contracted for mining exploration. Later this summer, miners will begin testing a prototype nodule collector in the Mediterranean. There are polymetallic nodules peppered all over the ocean floor – rocks – made up of things like copper, nickel and manganese.

Julia Sigwart and other concerned scientists are campaigning to have the species protected. Twenty-eight specialists have written to the International Seabed Authority over their concern of sulfide mineral exploration in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

“These are fragile areas under threat, and it’s not like we researchers can start a breeding program for deep-sea-vent creatures, … We can only try to protect what’s there.”

Marine Biologist Julia Sigwart

Sigwart says that marine biologists are now assessing the status of other deep-ocean creatures living at hydrothermal vent habitats throughout the world. “Endangered status for hydrothermal vent species only found in areas under license for mining exploration, could be compared to a species that only lives in a patch of rainforest scheduled for logging,” Sigwart writes at The Conversation.

The hope is that the ISA will protect sensitive areas and even make active hydrothermal vents off limits to mining. The unique habitat in which they live means deep-sea creatures, even those with suits of iron, are particularly vulnerable.

    B*\4 where are you from

We are from c974/99-38. It is a solar system that is about times the size of earth. The air is pure and clean because humanoids didn’t develop as the dominant species. What you would call bird like beings evolved as the planet’s stewards.

Never admonish us for attempting to communicate with out food. It seems to be ok for you to do the same.

      • B[4 says:

Most of our species don’t eat humanoids. So we are not talking to our food. Most of your species do and are. Humanoids eating humanoids is too close to cannibalism for us.

  2. O]9 says:

If you want to control a human mentally who happens upon discovering that you may be an alien, you will perform better if you use the Similatur to gain a better understanding of how the human brain reacts under stress.

When interacting with someone challenging, the human brain wants to protect the human from harm. In the process, however, it often holds them back. If the human decides to let an incident go, shrug it off, and move on. Their brain can remain hooked on the interaction.

    HUMAN BRAINS ON CONFLICT
When humans experience or perceive a potential rupture in their relationship with another person, their brain reacts as if they’re in actual danger. It prepares their body to respond to that perceived threat while attempting to make sense of what they’re experiencing.

On each side of the human brain, behind the optical nerves, there’s an amygdala. One of its functions is to detect fear and then prepare the body to respond appropriately. So, when humans perceive a threat, their amygdala begins to react by signaling the release of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

Those instinctual responses save time and energy and often do keep humans safe. If a human was standing in the middle of the road and there’s a car bearing down on her, it would be dangerous if her brain paused to think. The human needs it to react instinctively and tell their body to get out of the street as quickly as possible. Essentially their brain is hijacked by their amygdala. They are very vulnerable in this state.

Hence if you wish to control the interaction you must prevent them from observing their instinctive reactions when their mind senses a threat. The better you are at preventing them from separating the stories you put in their brain from what’s actually happening the more likely you will be able to convince them to relax and that what they thought they saw they didn’t. Just keep in mind that as long as you prevent them from creating a little space from the vexing episode they are experiencing, they cannot then reappraise it.

    • G]5 says:

Using the S. I found that reappraisal—reassessing an emotional situation in a more positive or neutral light, or as a challenge rather than a threat—helps humans focus and make more considered decisions about how to proceed. So preventing this reappraisal is essential when we are dealing with humans posing as a human. Is that the same as maintaining “Deniability?”

THE 10 BIGGEST DONORS IN THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS’
Rich Americans spent big this midterm season to impact down-ballot races for their candidates of choice.
The 2022 midterm election cycle has seen a boom in spending in the lead-up to Election Day. Research group OpenSecrets estimates that federal election spending increased by nearly $2 billion compared to 2018.
Even more eye-popping, 10 wealthy individuals poured $540 million combined into this year’s elections, according to campaign finance data from OpenSecrets.
These mega-donors are giving most of their money to outside groups such as super PACs that can raise and spend unlimited sums on election ads.
Roughly 62 percent of their donations boosted Republicans, who have received far more support than Democrats from big money groups leading up to November, a reversal from recent elections where wealthy donors favored Democrats.
Here are the 10 largest donors in the midterms, according to the most recent Federal Election Commission filings compiled by OpenSecrets:

    George Soros
    Total donations: $128.5M
    Affiliation: Democrat
Soros, a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor who made his fortune as a hedge fund manager, has donated $128.5 million to his own outside group, Democracy PAC, which then doled out millions of dollars to several super PACs supporting Democratic candidates.
His group donated $10.5 million to Senate Majority PAC, a super PAC controlled by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). It also gave $1 million to J Street Action Fund, a pro-Israel group that backs Democrats, and Planned Parenthood’s super PAC. If the group makes other donations, they won’t be revealed until after the election.
Soros has long been a target of right-wing attacks and conspiracy theories over his prolific donations to Democrats. His donations to support democracy in Hungary drew attacks from the country’s authoritarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that included antisemitic tropes.

    Richard Uihlein
    Total donations: $80.7M
    Affiliation: Republican
Uihlein is the co-founder of shipping giant Uline, one of the nation’s largest privately owned companies. The Illinois-based billionaire has emerged as a major force for Republicans in recent elections, and the 2022 election cycle marks his highest donation total.
He’s the top donor to Club for Growth, one of the most powerful conservative super PACs, giving $23.2 million. Uihlein also gave $3.5 million to a group backing Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), continuing his longstanding efforts to influence key Wisconsin races.

    Kenneth Griffin
    Total donations: $68.6M
    Affiliation: Republican
Griffin, the CEO of Miami-based hedge fund Citadel, is one of the wealthiest mega-donors, with an estimated net worth of $31 billion, according to Forbes.
He gave $18.5 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC controlled by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), making him the top individual donor to the group that is backing dozens of House GOP challengers. He gave another $10 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which is affiliated with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
Last year, “meme stock” traders accused Citadel of colluding with trading platform Robinhood to halt trading of GameStop stock. Griffin denied that his firm was involved in the decision during a congressional hearing on the issue and lawsuits against Citadel were dismissed.

    Jeff Yass
    Total donations: $47.3M
    Affiliation: Republican
Yass is the billionaire founder of quantitative trading firm Susquehanna International Group. He’s a longtime GOP donor who backs candidates favoring minimal taxes and government regulation and is vice chair of the libertarian Cato Institute’s board.
Yass donated $15 million to the School Freedom Fund, accounting for the vast majority of the Club for Growth-aligned group’s fundraising. The super PAC aired ads attacking Democratic candidates over COVID-19 school closures and “critical race theory” and waded into GOP primaries.
He donated $5 million to a super PAC supporting Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) reelection and gave $1.9 million in bitcoin to Crypto Freedom PAC, a pro-crypto group that is backing GOP Senate hopeful Blake Masters in Arizona.

    Timothy Mellon
    Total donations: $40M
    Affiliation: Republican
Mellon, a longtime GOP mega-donor, is the grandson of banking tycoon Andrew Mellon and was chairman of a transportation firm that was bought by freight rail giant CSX this year.
The Wyoming-based billionaire donated $10 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund. He gave another $5 million to the Sentinel Action Fund, a super PAC aligned with the Heritage Foundation’s action fund that spent most of its money on ads attacking Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.).
A major supporter of former President Trump and his efforts to tighten immigration laws, Mellon received attention for donating $53 million to Texas’s border wall fund last year.

    Sam Bankman-Fried
    Total donations: $39.8M
    Affiliation: Democrat
Bankman-Fried, the founder and CEO of crypto exchange FTX, is a new addition to the list of top donors.
The billionaire crypto executive sent most of his donations — $28 million — to his Protect Our Future PAC, a super PAC focused on preventing the next pandemic that mostly backed Democrats facing progressives in primaries.
That’s a fraction of the $1 billion total Bankman-Fried previously said he would spend to support Democratic candidates in the midterms and the 2024 election. He called his previous statement a “dumb quote” in an interview with Politico earlier this month, arguing that more donations can only go so far in the general election.
“At some point, when you’ve given your message to voters, there’s just not a whole lot more you can do,” Bankman-Fried said.

    Fred Eychaner
    Total donations: $35.8M
    Affiliation: Democrat
Eychaner, a longtime Democratic mega-donor and supporter of LGBT causes, runs Newsweb Corporation, which owns several radio stations and newspapers in the Chicago area.
He’s the top donor to Democrats’ House Majority PAC. He gave $9 million to House Majority PAC and donated another $8 million to Senate Majority PAC. Eychaner consistently gives the maximum allowed donation to the Democratic National Committee and Democrats’ other campaign committees.

    Stephen Schwarzman
    Total donations: $35.5M
    Affiliation: Republican
Schwarzman runs the Blackstone Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms.
The New York City billionaire donated $10 million to both the Senate Leadership Fund and the Congressional Leadership Fund, providing a huge boost to Republicans’ bid to retake control of Congress. He’s been a top 10 donor in each of the last three elections.

    Peter Thiel
    Total donations: $32.6M
    Affiliation: Republican
Thiel, who co-founded PayPal and currently runs data analytics firm Palantir Technologies, has emerged as a major GOP booster.
Thiel is joining the list of top donors for the first time, primarily placing his bets on two GOP Senate hopefuls. He gave $15 million to a super PAC supporting Arizona’s Blake Masters, a former executive at Thiel’s firm, and another $15 million to a super PAC supporting J.D. Vance in Ohio.

    Larry Ellison
    Total donations: $31M
    Affiliation: Republican
Retailers predict record holiday sales amid historic inflation
US Chamber rejects McCarthy’s call for new leadership
With an estimated net worth of nearly $100 billion, according to Forbes, Ellison is by far the wealthiest individual on this list.
The Oracle Corp. chairman donated $20 million to the Opportunity Matters Fund, a super PAC aligned with Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) that is backing GOP candidates in tight Senate races.

Where the rich pay much less

    Data: Insurify; Chart: Axios Visuals
If you have a bad credit score, you will pay a lot more for car insurance, per Insurify’s 2022 auto insurance trends report.

That’s unless you live in one of the handful of states that ban the practice — including California, Hawaii, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
Why it matters: This is obviously and deeply unfair. But empirically speaking, insurers say that credit score is a much better predictor of future claims than any other metric. So they will continue to use it unless the practice is outlawed.

In the summer of 1923, Frank and Elizabeth Fraser and their two-year-old dog set out from Oregon, Indiana, to visit family. When they stopped for gas at a service station in Indiana, the dog was attacked by other three dogs and fled.

They searched everywhere for him, but in the end could not find him. They returned to Oregon heartbroken, believing they would never see their beloved dog again. After losing all hope, one day their daughter saw a skinny and exhausted dog on the street that looked like Bobby. After his joyful reaction, it turned out to be the missing dog Thanks to the people who sheltered him during the journey, they were able to reconstruct the complete route he crossed.

To see his family again, he crossed almost 2500 miles (4,000 kilometers) in six months. He hiked across the Rocky Mountains in the middle of winter and ended up being nicknamed “Bobby the Wonder Dog.” He was the inspiration for the movie “Lassie Returns”.

What is the most humiliating thing anyone has ever made you do?
Ok, I was in 10 grade in my sex education class. Having ADHD I’m always doing something besides paying attention. Well my friend who I was sitting next too, all of a sudden looks at me and says “Steve!, quick raise you hand!” So I of course raised hand and the whole class burst out laughing looking at me and pointing. About that time the teacher says, “that’s ok Steve, everyone masterbates your the only one to admit it”

The year was 1982 sex was not talked about like it is today especially masterbating.

After that day I started paying attention in that class. 100% true story.

People can get from place to place more easily. The TV was grainy and unclear, so he fixes the connection to the Satellite dish and now they get hundreds of high def channels. One day, God decides to look down on Hell to see how his grand design is working out and notices that everyone is happy and enjoying umbrella drinks. He asks the Devil:

    What’s up?

The Devil says, “Things are great down here since you sent us an engineer.”

“What?” says God. “An engineer? I didn’t send you one of those. That must have been a mistake. Send him upstairs immediately.

“The Devil responds, “No way. We want to keep our engineer. We like him.”

God demands, “If you don’t send him to me immediately, I’ll sue!”

The Devil laughs. “Where are YOU going to get a lawyer?”

“That’s great!” said the woman, “How did your chickens become fertile?”

“I used a different rooster,” he replied.

  8. L*/5 says:

Y*/3 your portrayal of humanity as more positive than negative to the ecosystem of Earth is just bogus. Most changes to the earth’s benefit in the last 50 years were done by aliens planted among them. I.E, It was an alien who convinced humans to return wolves to an area they had systematically been wiped out from.
When in 1995 fourteen wolves were released into the wild in Yellowstone National Park, scientists did not suspect that this would radically change the entire ecosystem of the park.

There were no wolves in the park for 70 years, and all this time deer reigned there, which over the years of uncontrolled reproduction (all the efforts of people to control their population did not bring success) caused severe damage to the local flora. Fourteen wolves, of course, could not eat all the deer, but they forced those to be more careful in choosing places for pastures and to avoid certain parts of the park. In those places, vegetation began to revive. In six years, the number of trees has increased fivefold. Beavers have appeared, which need trees to build dams. Muskrats, ducks and fish have been bred in the backwaters. Wolves reduced the population of jackals, which led to an increase in the number of hares and mice, and they attracted hawks, ferrets and foxes to the park. The bears came to the park because they were able to drive the wolves away from their prey or eat up their scraps. The number of berries has increased in the park.

But the most amazing thing is that the wolves have changed the flow of rivers. Their channels straightened and stabilized, and coastal erosion decreased. This happened because the influence of wolves on deer led to the explosive growth of trees and grass along the banks of the rivers, which led to their strengthening. The very geography of the park has changed, and all thanks to the fourteen wolves released there less than twenty years ago.

Humans are about their own existence. They destroy the environment and any thing that interferes with their penchant for profit or self convenience.

I agree that HBs are about their own existence. Some, and their religious beliefs, propel the idea that their world and all that live on it, are gifts from God to use as they will. L*/5 said it best: “Humans are about their own existence. They destroy the environment and any thing that interferes with their penchant for profit or self convenience.”
I’m not even sure it’s about our own existence when greed and profit outweigh the lives of their own families? It’s all about “now, or the very near future.” It’s never about the distant future or we wouldn’t be in the place we are with global warming, and other environmental hazards that are killing us, the mammals and animals, and the air we breathe. Not to mention some of the foods we eat and the medications that we take that are cancer causing and addictive. All in the name of profit.

Do you bring only the food of the place that you left or do you try the food of the place you arrive at? And if you do, have you ever developed a taste for that food? Tech shares — using the Nasdaq composite as a gauge — were down 5.7% last week.
Tech-heavy sectors of the S&P 500, like the communications services sector — home to Alphabet and Meta — tumbled 7.4% during the week.
The big picture: Some are framing the divergence in market performance as something of an economic changing of the guard.

A recent report by Goldman Sachs commodities analysts — who’ve distinguished themselves with some savvy calls on oil prices earlier this year — entitled “The Old Economy Takes its Revenge,” spotlighted recent earnings reports from Exxon and Microsoft, in which the oil giant’s cash flows overtook Microsoft’s.
They wrote, “In our view, these results are a pivotal moment for the broader economy as high commodity prices cannibalize earnings from other sectors as well as force interest rates higher, lowering valuations.”
The kicker: “This past week has shown us how the Old Economy is starting to take its revenge on the New Economy,” they wrote.

Yes, but: While that could be the case … plenty of “old economy” sectors like airlines, automobiles, chemicals, metals and mining stocks all remain deep in negative territory this year.

Automobiles and auto part stocks are actually doing worse than tech, down roughly 40%, according to the S&P 500 subindex that follows the industry.
The bottom line: The performance of the markets this year is a more straightforward story of energy stocks simply beating everything else.

Our experiments show that the human skeleton structure will continue to expand if we don’t duplicate the gravitational pressure they experience on earth. Spending extended time in space will cause them to “grow” an additional two inches or so taller (up to three percent of their original height).
If we get them to a planet that has a pressure similar to Earth’s regular gravity soon enough, then it won’t be permanent growth like they experience in childhood, however, but just the effects of the zero-G environment allowing their spine to fully decompress, free from the pressure of Earth’s regular gravity.

But on the other hand if they are under our zero gravity ship atmosphere for an extended period of time, it will not be reversible.

The Powerball winning numbers for the record $1.9 billion jackpot are expected to be drawn Tuesday morning after a delay caused by a participating local lottery failing to submit its sales data in time for the drawing scheduled for Monday night (11/07/2022).

The historic Powerball jackpot has a cash option of $929.1 million.

The Powerball drawing, typically broadcast live on television stations across the country and Youtube just before 11 p.m. three nights a week, failed to happen as scheduled Monday night. One of the 48 participating lotteries “had not finished processing its sales and play data,” according to Powerball officials.

Mr Sullivan has held confidential discussions with his Russian counterpart, Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev, and senior Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, over the past several months. Those talks are what has been moving the needle as to when we start the beaming process.

The hope is that some of what is said will filter down to the russian oligarchy who don’t want to die for Putin’s desire to take the Ukraine. Since that “hope” belongs only to the faction up here that thinks they must save “THE TWO” why don’t we beam up before the big blast and let those who want to prevent it work on that?

On January 23, 1897, Zona Heaster Shue of Greenbrier County, West Virginia was found dead inside her home by a neighborhood boy. It was unclear what had caused the young woman’s death, especially because her sobbing husband Erasmus “Trout” Shue refused to stop cradling her head and got upset whenever the coroner tried to examine her body.

Shue’s cause of death was first listed as an “everlasting faint,” then switched to childbirth, even though she wasn’t actually pregnant — and with that, the case was closed. But about one month after Shue’s death, her mother Mary Jane allegedly started receiving a startling nocturnal visitor: the ghost of her daughter.

According to Mary Jane, her daughter’s spirit came to her bedside and told her that she had been murdered by her husband, all because she hadn’t cooked him what he wanted for supper.

Word of Shue’s ghost quickly spread through the small town and Mary Jane soon convinced the coroner to conduct a thorough examination of her body — and he found injuries just like the ones that the ghost had described and confirmed that she had indeed been murdered.

Apple appears to have started tracking user activities while in the App Store, making some suspect the company significantly deviated from its “privacy (opens in new tab) is a human right” ideals.

Two researchers going by the alias Mysk discovered iOS was sending Apple a detailed log of how users interact with the App Store, including where they tap while interacting with the store. The information is being delivered to the company in real-time via a JSON file, it was said.

This newly discovered tracking feature could be connected to Apple recently introducing new ad placements to the mobile app repository, some believe, with others suggesting that Apple has been tracking user behavior this way since the release of iOS 14.6 back in May 2021.
