That is, if we are around to see it. This may be the start of WWIII.

On a podcast released Tuesday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has been waving “giant offers” in an effort to poach talented employees from his San Francisco company. With the casual tone of a cashier ringing up a customer’s grocery total, Altman gave the offers’ specifics: “$100 million signing bonuses, more than that comp[ensation] per year.”

As surveillance footage of an increasingly popular violent street crime has surfaced from South Carolina, police are warning Americans of the disturbing trend.

The crime is known as “jugging,” a type of robbery in which criminals surveil banks and ATMs, watching for victims who withdraw large sums of money. When those victims finish their transactions, the “juggers” will usually follow them to a secondary location, where they will rob the victims, often inside their vehicles.

“Jugging rhymes with mugging, it’s spread from Texas to South Carolina,” Fox News Senior Correspondent Steve Harrigan said on “America Reports” on Friday. “Some police there weren’t even sure what the word meant until the crime started happening in their own districts. Law enforcement warns that it could be over in a flash.”

    Elections Have Consequences:

The Trump administration is shortening ObamaCare’s annual open enrollment period and ending the law’s coverage of immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally as children, according to a final rule announced Friday.

The Biden administration made it easier and more affordable to sign up for Affordable Care Act plans, causing enrollment to swell to an all-time high. The Trump administration claims those moves opened a wave of fraudulent enrollment that’s costing taxpayers billions of dollars.

According to the rule, the federal open enrollment period will run from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. Currently, federal open enrollment ends Jan. 15.

Under tRump Predatory lenders get a get out of jail free card.

One after another, the debtors were called to stand before the judge.

First came Adrian Vega, a painter, and his wife, Natalie, a cleaner.

Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post.

Moments later, Andrew Vanderhoof, a mechanic.

In rapid succession, three more names were called. Each was being sued by Credit Acceptance Corporation, one of the nation’s largest subprime auto lenders, for thousands of dollars. This scene played out last month in Rockford, Illinois, but it has been repeated in courtrooms across the country. Every month, Credit Acceptance files hundreds of lawsuits against borrowers.

For two years, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the nation’s financial watchdog, has sought to restrain Credit Acceptance, accusing it in a lawsuit of making “predatory loans to millions of financially vulnerable consumers trying to buy a used vehicle.” But the CFPB’s enforcement effort stopped in April when the agency withdrew from the lawsuit.

The CFPB’s reversal in the Credit Acceptance case reflects how, under the Trump administration, the agency’s new approach to enforcement may be felt by consumers nationwide. The agency’s withdrawal left only its co-plaintiff, the New York attorney general, to continue the enforcement lawsuit, so any final ruling would affect only New York and not the rest of the country.

The first out of the Rockford courtroom were the Vegas, appearing dazed. The judge had ordered them to pay the company $12,797.58.

      “It’s ridiculous,” Adrian said.

His wife’s eyes welled up with tears.

“Just … so frustrating,” she said.

Credit Acceptance lends money at high interest rates – usually over 20 percent – to customers buying a used car from its network of dealers, which charge an unusually high markup, according to the lawsuit. It repossesses about a quarter of the cars on which it has issued loans, it said.

Since President Donald Trump’s second term began, the CFPB has moved to terminate or dismiss 18 such enforcement lawsuits, according to research by the Consumer Federation of America, a nonprofit advocacy organization. Those cases had accused banks, mortgage firms and installment lenders of financial abuses and deception.

“These retreats are gifts to predatory lenders and would-be fraudsters,” said Erin Witte, director of consumer protection at the Consumer Federation of America. “They are being told over and over that they can keep on doing what they are doing.”

In a statement, Credit Acceptance officials said “we categorically reject the portrayal of our business practices as ‘predatory.’ For over 50 years, we have provided access to credit for individuals who are often overlooked by traditional lenders. … The vast majority of our customers are grateful for and satisfied with the service we provide.”

      Elections Have Consequences:

WASHINGTON — Liberal Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson criticized her colleagues Friday in a scathing dissent in a case involving vehicle emissions regulations.

In her dissenting opinion, she argued that the court’s ruling gives the impression it favors “moneyed interests” in the way it decides which cases to hear and how it rules in them. The court had ruled 7-2 in favor of fuel producers seeking to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of California clean vehicle emissions regulations.

She also said she was concerned that the ruling could have “a reputational cost for this court, which is already viewed by many as being overly sympathetic to corporate interests.”

With the Trump administration reversing course on many of former President Joe Biden’s environmental policies, including those about California’s electric vehicle mandates, the case is most likely moot or soon will be, Jackson wrote, making her wonder why the court felt the need to decide it.

“This case gives fodder to the unfortunate perception that moneyed interests enjoy an easier road to relief in this court than ordinary citizens,” she wrote.

The case said the producers had legal standing to bring their claims, resting on a theory “that the court has refused to apply in cases brought by less powerful plaintiffs,” she added.

The decision has little practical importance now, but in the future, it “will no doubt aid future attempts by the fuel industry to attack the Clean Air Act,” she said.

“Also, I worry that the fuel industry’s gain comes at a reputational cost for this court, which is already viewed by many as being overly sympathetic to corporate interests,” she added.

The court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, has often faced claims that it is particularly receptive to arguments made by big business. The conservative justices have been especially skeptical of broad government regulations, and they have consistently made it harder for consumers and workers to bring class action lawsuits.

Last year, the court overturned a 40-year precedent much loathed by business interests that empowered federal agencies in the regulatory process.

Both Israel and Iran want a ceasefire that works, but for different reasons. Israel wants one because they can’t afford to keep up that level of fighting with a country 70 times larger than they are.
In a war of attrition Israel would be the definite loser. Iran doesn’t intend to bargain in good faith, they just need time to repair the damage to their defenses and to restart the nuclear program they intend to have. Whatever they promise to do will mean nothing to them. Some asshole on this blog gave them the heads up about the US bombing so they have much of their nuclear fuel and machinery in a safe place.

Of course nothing is safe from the prying eyes of the Ear. If he doesn’t have a heads up as to where that stuff is, he will find it and sell it to the highest bidder; that would be Israel. It is rumored that he hates tRump and that means no amount of money will make him help the “asshole,” his words not mine.

    • Rashid says:

Oh really? So you are blaming this blog for the fuckups of tRump? As for the Ear, I hear he is making a secret deal with Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian. He wants access to a secret gold horde in Cheekha Dar. It is a mountain located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, but the area the Ear is interested in is the part that borders Iran. Presently the revolutionary guard of Iran has control of that area. What the deal entails is anyone’s guess, but it is on going.

He started by getting his Venice wedding celebrations location canceled. And raised the protection fee for his guests.
The guy is just a glorified mercenary.

        • Fy says:

I heard this too. Also that Bezos invited the the tRump brats because they would bring US military for security. I don’t think that the Ear gives a damn. While I don’t think he will fire on American military personnel, he won’t give the secret service or the CIA the same consideration, I understand that both those organizations will be in on tRump Jr, and Ivanka’s security detail.

          • Clyde says:

He also hedged his bets by inviting some good friends of the Ear like Oprah, and Tudor.

            • Sadhbh says:

All that could backfire because there will be be several billionaires there, like Bill Gates, who may or may not be keeping payments to the Ear up to date.

        • Agostin says:

The threat by the Ear was to sink Bezo’s $500 million dollar yacht, the Kori. The insidious SOB is everywhere in everybody’s pocket. Iran dropped the $6 billion bounty they put on his head to save the lives of their top cadre. So the Khamenei can sleep in peace.

        • Carlos says:

The Ear has a staff of about 3,000 who he allocates a little more than $1 million dollars a year to. He needs $3.5 Billion dollars a year to meet that payroll. His other expenses are enormous also. The world needs him. So why shouldn’t they pay for the security they get.

That gold doesn’t belong to Iran. It is a dump by the aliens. Who in their right mind wants the maniacs who control Iran to have more than a trillion dollars in gold at their disposal?
I hear the Ear suspects the Kurds for leaking the information about the gold. Look for the Ear to unleash their sworn enemy Turkey on them.

They are more concerned that the American public is finding out the truth than they are in determining why they failed. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to lie about results than it is to actually accomplish them, especially if you have questionable competency.

  15. Chun says:

The next time some one thinks of not paying the Ear they better remember what happened to the Morning Midas. Some powerful (or so they thought- possibly because Xi Jinping was a partner in this money making venture) turns out the Ear couldn’t give a shit.

When the Ear was informed that he would no longer be paid, he told them that the Morning Midas would never make it to delivery. That proved to be true. The entire cargo was lost off the shore of Alaska and the ship sank. I guess the message is you have to pay the SOB if you enter a deal with him.

    • Hamish says:

Both Liberia and Zodiac Maritine warned Xi that if the Ear’s fee wasn’t paid the Morning Midas and its cargo would never reach its destination. China with its huge Navy couldn’t protect Xi’s investment.

I believe the Ear sent him a clear message. That message seems to be if you don’t ante up your dues, there will be a dear price to pay. Just ask America. When the Ear told Israel not to back up the US airforce’s bombing with a surgical strike of theirs to finish off Iran’s nuclear sites, they defied the US military and didn’t. The result is a $Billion dollar mission wasted because Iran will be up and running in a few months with their nuclear program intact as if there was no bombing.

This was the favor he did for Iran to get sole control of the Cheekha Dar mountain area abutting Iran. Khomeini would not dare renig on that deal. He knows that if he does, the Ear will give the Jews his exact location.

His favor to Israel was to get Iran to accept a truce. Israel is reeling from fighting two wars on two fronts. They needed to stop Iran from bombing their civilian population into a dead panic. Everybody got something they wanted including the Ear.

  16. Rodger says:

I hear the Ear is about to teach Mossad a lesson. That lesson according to him is: “sometimes knowing too much is more dangerous than not knowing enough.

    Watch this space.

    • Nader says:

The leak came from Israel. Mossad wanted access to the gold. They know that they can’t get anywhere near the Cheekha Dar, mountains because the Iraqis and or the Iranians would attack them. Israel’s spies got the information from the bits of data they got from the Kurds, Iraqis and Iranians. they leaked it on the blog to put those factions against each other. They were attempting to confuse the Ear as to the source of the leak with the hope that he would seek their help with the retrieval of the gold. They planned to ask for a modest percent of the gold as compensation for their help. Only Mossad could have put the bits of information each party had to arrive at the whole picture. Now that the Ear knows only time will tell how he will deal with those within Mossad, who thought they could outsmart the Ear.

When legislators bypass proper committee assignments to ensure outcome, they transform the legislative process from a system of deliberation into a rigged game. That is not what democracy, fairness and honesty are all about. It just isn’t,

This is not just about one incredibly important issue or another . This is about whether we’re going to let our elected officials rig the system whenever they feel like it. The republicans are unscrupulous. tRump’s four year term is not going to end well for democracy.

    • Dani says:

I fully agree with you. The republicans write legislation that forces victims to pay tens of thousands of dollars upfront just to bring a claim against corporations or other entities that wrong them.

      • Thomas says:

Those republicans are creating significant financial barriers to justice and that’s not fair and that’s not justice. They create barriers to justice for victims and limit access to legal recourse for many victims.

A cursory read of the book, “Caste” by Isabel Wilkerson will explains why the dominant caste will do things in their worst interest to protect that dominance.

I am a white man that came to the book through my daughter who married a Mexican. I was very much against it, I still am. My beautiful, talented daughter threw that fucking book at me as she walked out the door of the home she grew up in swearing never to return. She told me and her mother to read it. My wife threw it in the trash and said she would never call children from a wet back her grand kids.
Later, I retrieved the book. It was an eye opening incredible read. It was difficult to learn all the totally evil things my race has done and continues to do to preserve our dominant status. But that doesn’t mean I want muds for grand kids. I agree with my wife.

Our daughter risks losing hundreds of millions of dollars if she marries that Mexican. I don’t intend to leave her a dime if she does even though she is our only child. If she were not, I could see myself leaving her a few million, but as she is our only issue, no way.

Iran will survive this and come out stronger and better prepared to wipe out the existence of that Jewish cancer in our midst.
