COVID-19 positivity rates are rising in San Francisco, according to data from the city’s public health department.
By the numbers: The seven-day rolling average test positivity rate was 7.1% as of Aug. 6, per the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Meanwhile, San Francisco’s Oceanside wastewater treatment plant saw a 209% increase in COVID-19 matter in local sewage between July 9 and Aug. 9, the San Francisco Standard reports.
The big picture: The latest strain of COVID-19, nicknamed “Eris,” is now the country’s most dominant strain, accounting for about 17% of all cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
What they’re saying: “Currently, we do not expect more severe disease or hospitalizations for people who are up to date on their vaccinations,” a spokesperson with the department of public health told the SF Standard.
