clean eating

I had a “US Extra Fancy” Washington state organic apple today that came in a package of apples. When I went to wash it, I saw that the apple was just too perfect, and was particularly waxy. I tried to wash it off but it never really came off. I looked up the store where I purchased their name brand organic apples (also finding out their old organic label now means bupkis) and while they might use beeswax on some organic produce, they generally use a product called Apeel. It’s made of purified monoglycerides and diglycerides. The government says its Generally Assumed Safe and if you eat it, you are consuming 10% of your daily limit in 1 apple. They have no idea what it does to you long term if you consistently ingest it. In my hunger haste I cut the skin off- which in turns reduces the fiber and polyphenols like 40%! What a waste. Alternatively, you might try to soak your fruits and veg in a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water. Simple washing (I used soap) will not remove it. I didn’t have time today. It did get me thinking about produce labeling once more. If you need a reminder, like I did, here’s the 411:

.

Now my apples had a five digit code starting with a 4! AI is telling me that the store is using their own “inhouse codes” on the PCU label. What a grift.

BlogBiz: I’ve turned off some plug-ins that may have gotten in the way of some of the posters’ issues with mod_security and whatnot. Its guesswork if I turned off the correct one; let see how it goes. I appreciate you hanging in there. If you experience problems, always feel free to send me an email at info@orderlyrandomness.com and let me know the time you experienced the failure, what the error code might have been, and what the name was on the post that failed. Thanks

Thank you for reading today's post. Have an InterStellar Day! ~PrP
