Did anyone else see the news story about the chivalry “assignment” for students at Shallowater High School in Texas? Shallowater is located a little northwest of Lubbock, Texas. I couldn’t believe it was actually true when the news article was forwarded to me.
The girls were instructed to demonstrate how the “code of chivalry and standards set in the medieval concept of courtly love carries over into the modern day,” ahem, instructing them to be subservient! They were told they must do the following:
“Ladies cannot show intellectual superiority….” ! I think that is the biggest tell in this misogynist bullshit list. Ladies must “clean up after men,” “obey requests,” “don’t talk to males unless addressed,” “address them with lowered heads and a curtsy,” and walk “as if their feet were bound?!” What f’g century is this? Who is the holy roller teaching this class? Surely there are better ways to teach about medievil history (and evil does belong in that word, imho). How about reading a damn book?!
And as you would suspect, the male assignment was pretty benign:
Once news of this was shared on social media, outrage caused the assignment was to be pulled. As it should!
I can’t find any information on the name of the teacher. I’m gonna guess the teacher was white. But, I wouldn’t venture to say that the teacher was a male, since it’s just as probable that a white woman was leading the class. White women keep the bigots and fundamentalists in action by, at a minimum, voting GOP. One need only look to our highest court, and Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, to know this is true.
It’s totally disgusting and flies in the face of equal rights.
