That cracked me up. (<—— corn pun) Maybe Im the only one with a sense of humor here.
Cracked me up too.
Will you explain it to me. I don’t get it and I hate to be on the outs.
Corn isn’t well digested in the human body and often passes right through the digestive track
(Also there was a song Jimmy Cracked Corn… hence the pun comment)
That song was about a slave taking care of his “master.”
America has had a defense budget of over $800B every year for many years now. Russia has had a budget of between $50B and $70B since the early 2010s when Putin decided to make the military the most important thing to keep his power and fulfill his expansionist dreams.
However, America’s resources are more than ten times greater. Putin can parade around with his Satan missile and other weapons, America does not need that, because America has a really powerful military, while Russia just gives the impression to the whole world that it is powerful.
You have to note the difference here between showing your power to make people believe that you are powerful, and just being powerful, which means that you don’t have to prove anything to others via propaganda about your weapons.
The Russian army proves its weakness since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. Putin must feel humiliated in front of such a deplorable image. The Russian army has taken 20% of the Ukrainian territory. The Kremlin propaganda will tell you that this is huge, but even Putin is disappointed with such a result, he who thought he could parade in Kyiv one month after the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.
There was a line in the TV show Chernobyl when Gorbachev says “Our power comes from the perception of our power”. It’s true, right up to the point where it’s not.
Stop leaving hovercraft 20 or more meters above the ocean. You are unnecessarily damaging human bodies. Between 20 and 60 meters, the probability of injury quickly becomes significant and horizontal penetration into the water should always be avoided to minimize the initial surface of contact. The best position remains vertical, feet together in front. The risk of breaking the legs is significant, but it is better than the neck or the spine in the classic position.
The trauma of falling more than 60 meters into water is not strictly speaking caused by a “concrete-like” water surface. The problem stems from the fact that the submerged part of the human body, considerably slowed down by the viscosity of the water, is, at all times, compressed by the non-submerged part, whose kinetic energy gives the submerged body an unbearable pressure for the organs and the bones, unable to resist it.
The result is nothing similar with the trauma of a fall on concrete. Whatever the position during penetration, the spine and the cranial box are solicited and the outcome can only be fatal to that human body. Your only hope will be to escape before the body dies.
Sorry, except in truly miraculous circumstances, there is little hope of survival and the only consolation comes from the fact that death is almost instantaneous.
War isn’t a penis wawing contest to see who has the biggest guns, but who can most effectively achieve their tactical and strategic goals.
On June 24, pro-Russian separatists fired at Ukrainian troops in the city of Alchevsk, Luhansk region.
A bizarre mid-air malfunction causes the missile to fail as it ascends into the night sky, before looping on itself and striking positions held by Vladimir Putin’s troops.
It is assumed that the missile failed due to a malfunction of the internal GPS tracking system. The failed attack also set fire to nearby houses, according to local media.
It was also a violation of the rules allowing you to participate in this earth war DeN. Take note.
Her constant speeding up time has the long term effect of gradually increasing the length of an earth day. Being that it is something akin to the power of the GODS, there is no logical explanation for this. Yes, we can measure the increase of the earth day, but we can not explain it scientifically.
Over the past few decades, Earth’s rotation around its axis – which determines how long a day is – has been speeding up. This trend has been making earth days shorter; in fact, in June 2022 earth set a record for the shortest day over the past half a century or so.
But despite this record, since 2020 that steady speedup has curiously switched to a slowdown – days are getting longer again, and the reason is so far a mystery.
I bet I know someone who knows what is happening.
The problem has been solved. Thus you may keep you secret. If you choose to do otherwise, …….

When a recording artist gets an award for going gold or platinum, the record in the award frame is rarely the record they actually recorded. While early awards would put “masters”, “mothers”, or “stampers” (metal parts used for pressing records out of vinyl) in the frame, today it is far more common for there just to be a random record in there with the official label pasted on (modern awards often use CDs).

The face of the CPR dummy that nearly everyone around the world uses for CPR training, nicknamed “Rescue Anne”, was modeled off the death mask of an unidentified young woman pulled from the River Seine in the late 1880s. The death mask was created for public display to assist the police in identifying her, but while she was never identified, the public was taken by her beauty and the mask was copied and distributed around Europe where eventually, in 1958, her face was used to model the CPR dummy.

You can also use it to respond to someone asking if you knew about a particular fact. For instance, someone messages you, “dId you know that our favorite coming band is playing a show here next month?” If the answer is yes, you might reply with “IK” instead.
What Does “ISTG” Mean, and How Do You Use It?
VANN VICENTE
One of the hottest internet acronyms among today’s teenagers is ISTG. Here’s what this versatile slang term means and how you can use it in your messages and social media posts.
ISTG is short for “I swear to God.” It can express that you’re being serious and truthful, or that you have strong feelings—typicaly either excitement or frustration.
ISTG means “I swear to God.” It’s an acronym that people use in online conversations and internet posts to assure others, express annoyance, or convey how strongly they feel about something. You’ll find it all over the internet, from social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram to direct messages between friends.
You can write this acronym in the lowercase “istg” and the uppercase “ISTG.” These two are essentially interchangeable. However, the all-caps version may seem more “intense,” depending on the context.
The Origin of ISTG
Unlike other internet acronyms that started in the 90s, ISTG likely originated in the early 2000s. As teenagers began getting internet access, instant messaging programs like AOL Instant Messenger and Yahoo Messenger rose in popularity. This came with an entirely new set of acronyms from common phrases used by teenagers at the time.
The first definition for ISTG on the internet slang repository Urban Dictionary was created in 2007 and reads, “I swear to God. Promising.” ISTG became even more popular in the late 2010s with its use in messaging apps like Snapchat and WhatsApp. Nowadays, you can find this acronym all over the internet.
Annoyance and Assurance
There are two common ways to use ISTG in your messages, with the meaning largely depending on the context of the conversation. It can either signify that you’re frustrated or that you’re trying to be honest. Since these are two distinct meanings, you should avoid confusing the two. For example, you might not want to send a chipper response if your friend is annoyed at the entire conversation.
First, the acronym can show that you’re frustrated or annoyed at something. Normally, an “annoyed” ISTG is delivered with a sarcastic joke or a hint of someone’s annoyance, such as the word “ugh.” For example, someone might tweet out, “Ugh, istg if this rain doesn’t end soon,” to signal that they’re not a fan of the bad weather. The message might also seem particularly brusque, such as a sentence that reads “ISTG…” with ellipses being a common sign of frustration.
The other conveys that you’re being sincere or vouching that something is true. You could use this if you’re trying to describe something that seems unbelievable or if other people express doubts about your story. If you’re trying to convince others of a supernatural encounter, you might say, “ISTG! I saw a ghost!”
Another ISTG
There’s another way to use this slang term that’s become increasingly popular in the social media age. It’s what we call an “emphatic” ISTG. People often use this on social apps, such as Twitter and Instagram, to convey that they feel very strongly about something.
This definition normally skews very positively, with people using it to describe how much they enjoyed something. You might use this to express your opinions on an album you just listened to or a movie that you just watched. For example, if you enjoyed a recent show on Netflix, you might say, “ISTG, this new show is amazing.”
You can also use it to emphasize opinions that, while not unpopular, might be contentious to some. These are also called “hot takes” — thoughts that inspire a lot of discussion and debate. For example, if you love Hawaiian pizza, you might Tweet out, “ISTG pineapples belong on pizza.”
How to Use ISTG
ISTG has several definitions that you can deploy in different contexts. You can use it to express your deep frustration, vouch that something is true, or emphasize your beliefs. It can be written in both the lowercase “istg” and the uppercase “ISTG” interchangeably. Since this is a very casual acronym, avoid using it in business or professional scenarios.
Here are a few examples of ISTG in action:
“Ugh, istg, I’m going to lose my mind at work.”
“ISTG, I’m telling the truth. I won the lottery!”
“Istg, this is the best album I’ve ever heard.”
“If you don’t stop being reckless, istg you’re going to break a leg.”
What Does the Skull Emoji Mean? 💀
VANN VICENTE
If you see someone using the skull emoji (💀), you might think it references something deadly or macabre. After all, for hundreds of years, the human skull symbol has been a staple in everything to do with death, from depictions of the Grim Reaper to the poison warnings on bottles of toxic cleaning chemicals. However, in the last decade, the meaning of the skull symbol on the internet has radically transformed into something unexpected: intense laughter.
When you open the comments of a funny TikTok video or viral Tweet, you may be greeted by thousands of skull emoji from people, even when the content has nothing to do with death. All of these refer to bouts of intense laughter — a darkly funny version of acronyms like “LOL” that have been around on the internet for years. While this is a trend started by younger users, it’s spread across the internet.
Here are a few examples of the emoji in action:
“That ending. 💀”
“💀”
“That was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. 💀💀💀”
Yeet is a word that means “to throw,” and it can be used as an exclamation while throwing something. It’s also used as a nonsense word, usually to add humor to an action or verbal response. But where did yeet come from, and why does it have two separate definitions?
Yeet Lore and Etymology
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when yeet became a word, but its meaning and usage seems to stem from 2000’s hip-hop.
In an Urban Dictionary entry from 2008, a man named Bubba Johnson defines yeet as an exclamation used when throwing an object in the air, especially “in basketball when someone has shot a three-pointer that they are sure will go in the hoop.”
Of course, people rarely use yeet as an actual word; it’s usually used as a nonsensical exclamation. This nonsensical usage is reminiscent of rap ad-libs, like 50 Cent’s “G-G-G-G-UNIT” or Lil John’s “YEEAAAH.”
When Do You Say Yeet?
A man stares at his laptop in agony. Is now the right time to say yeet?
Again, yeet is mostly used as a humorous nonsense word. You can technically use it whenever you want to chuckle, although you should probably avoid using it in professional situations. In fact, you should probably avoid using it in any situation where you might be ridiculed for shouting out a meme. (If you’re reading this article in public, it’s too late. Everybody knows that you’re super obsessed with memes now).
But some yeet-enthusiasts frown on the nonsensical use of yeet. If you want to respect the word’s concrete definition, you should exclaim “YEET!” as you throw or push an object, or when you forcefully run into an obstacle. Keep in mind that its effectiveness rests on self-confidence. If you aren’t confident in your throwing abilities, you should use yeet sparingly.
As for yeet’s use in everyday conversation, use it as you’d use any other verb. It isn’t strictly an exclamation; it’s just fun to yell “YEET” while something’s flying across the room.

You can take things a step further by studying yeet’s verb tenses. We’ve included a handy Yeet Conjugation Chart in this article for your convenience. Feel free to share this chart as an educational resource, but keep in mind that yeet isn’t recognized as a word by Webster’s Dictionary yet. Its definition may change over time, and educators may frown on the word the same way that they spent a century frowning down on “ain’t” or “y’all.”
In other words, don’t put yeet in your next essay and don’t say it to your boss. Otherwise, they might yeet you right out of there

Based on current projections, astronomers believe that the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies will merge together (collide) within the next five billion years, creating a larger hybrid galaxy (dubbed “Milkomeda”).
This is not exactly correct. Our calculations show a change in the forces that would bring this about. Andromeda which is about 2 and a half million light years from Earth will eat some of the smaller galaxies just left of its attraction mode during that 5 billion year cycle. The Milky Way galaxies is destined to enlarge during that period by absorbing a wakening galaxy on its left also. The resulting forces will keep it and Andromeda apart for another 3 to 5 billion years.

What is the difference between WI-FI and cellular?
WiFi requires an internet connection, while 4G does not. WiFi is typically slower than wireless internet. The range of WiFi signals are limited while the range for a typical user with a wireless package in their home can reach up to 100 meters radius from the device transmitting the signal. That’s about 33 yards!
The big difference between WiFi on your phone and 4G on your phone is 4G tablets also connect to the Internet without WiFi. On top of that, you can use those tablets to make calls. You’ll need a separate SIM card in order to do so, since it’s not included in the tablet. View all 4G tablets.

What is the difference between Wi-Fi and Cellular connections?
Confused about the difference between cellular data and Wi-Fi? There many technical ways to explain the difference between the two, but we’re going to try to simplify this as much as possible by highlighting the main points.
This table shows the major differences between Cellular Data and Wi-Fi:
Cellular Data
Wi-Fi
Offered by mobile carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.)
Set up yourself in-home, by IT at work, or offered by Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
Covers large areas (cities, towns, etc.)
Location-based covers small areas such as cafes, your home, or airports
Users purchase plans for a certain amount of data per period (10 GB, 50 GB, Unlimited, etc.)
Typically, Wi-Fi has no limit for the amount of data
Useful for simple internet activities (checking Email or Facebook)
Generally much faster than cellular, perfect for data-intensive activities (Skype, Netflix, YouTube, downloading music, etc.)
(Source: Boingo)
Radio Frequencies: Since Wi-Fi is a local area network (LAN), it can only provide internet access within a short-range. Devices can exchange data on the internet using 2.4 GHz UHF and 5 GHz radio waves. This means that bandwidth is very high, which allows users to do pretty much anything they want on their devices, from checking emails to streaming videos.
As stated in the above table, Cellular can cover a wide range, even entire countries at this point. When you’re searching on your web browser or checking Facebook, you are consuming data. It can potentially be just as fast as Wi-Fi, but can be way more expensive. Cell phone frequencies vary depending on the provider, you have Version which gives you 4G LTE. 4G LTE frequencies are a little different than 3G. 4G LTE started in the late 2000s and is compatible with 3G, which means that it can handle talk, text, and data-heavy activities. Its frequencies are classified by Bands, which are groupings of radio frequencies used by mobile networks. Many mobile networks support up to 4 bands, ranging from 700 MHz (Band 12) to 2100 MHz (Band 4).
Switching from Wi-Fi to Mobile Network
Smartphones support both Wi-Fi and cellular connections, but (without Speedify) they do a terrible job of switching between the two.
Sometimes apps or webpages won’t even load unless you turn off Wi-Fi to switch to cellular, even though there are settings that allow you to switch from one to another. Speedify fixes all of these problems, letting you move from Wi-Fi to Cellular and back to Wi-Fi without over dropping a Skype call, going offline, or having your music stop.
“Speedify did smooth out a bump in my home wireless network, which uses a pair of linked AirPort Extreme routers for wider coverage. There’s a known dead zone in my hallway right between the two routers, but Speedify successfully filled this brief gap using cellular connectivity, allowing downloads or streaming video to continue without missing a beat,” Macworld
iOS phones have something called Wi-Fi Assist, where phones will switch from a poor or weak Wi-Fi signal to the user’s cellular data. The issue with this is that the phone will stay connected to the internet over cellular, which may cause users to use up a lot of data. Apple does note on its site that it engages for foreground apps, not background tasks. But in many cases, users can use hundreds of megabytes or gigabytes without even realizing it. This is an automatic setting for iOS 9, which many people have decided to opt-out of. If you have an apple phone, HERE is how you can disable those settings.
Nick Fuentes, identified as a “white supremacist” in Justice Department filings, made headlines last week for hosting a white nationalist conference in Florida. His father is also half Mexican American.
The big picture: Fuentes is part of a small but increasingly visible number of far-right provocateurs with Hispanic backgrounds who spread racist, antisemitic messages.
Driving the news: Cuban American Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, a group the Anti-Defamation League calls an extremist group with a violent agenda, was arrested Tuesday and charged with conspiracy in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
What they’re saying: Experts tell Axios far-right extremism within the Latino community stems from three sources: Hispanic Americans who identify as white; the spread of online misinformation; and lingering anti-Black, antisemitic views among U.S. Latinos that are rarely openly discussed.
Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at Cal State University, said in an interview that the trend is “part of the mutation that takes place as the racist fringe tries to become more mainstream.”
Racism is deeply rooted in Latin American and Caribbean nations, where slavery was common, Tanya K. Hernández, a Fordham University law professor and author of the upcoming book, “Racial Innocence: Unmasking Latino Anti-Black Bias,” told Axios. “In Latin America, white supremacy is alive and well.”
Even families who have been in the U.S. for generations can often bring those biases with them.
Between the lines: The U.S. trend, fueled over the course of Donald Trump’s presidency and the pandemic, extends beyond movement leaders to a broader network of participants, some of whom have faced hate crimes charges.
Last month, Jose Gomez III, 21, of Midland, Texas, pleaded guilty in federal court to three counts of committing a hate crime for attacking an Asian American family, including two children, he believed to be responsible for the pandemic.
In 2018, Alex Michael Ramos, a Puerto Rican resident of Georgia, was sentenced by a Virginia District Court to six years in prison for his role in a beating of a Black man in Charlottesville, Virginia, following the “Unite the Right” rally.
Christopher Rey Monzon, a Cuban American man and member of the neo-Confederate group League of the South, was arrested in 2017 for attempting to assault anti-racist protesters in Hollywood, Fla. He later resigned from the group and said he regretted using slurs for Black and Jewish people.
Context: At the conference in Orlando, which made headlines because U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accepted an invitation to speak, Fuentes drew attention for comments of his own:
“And now they’re going on about Russia and Vladimir Putin is Hitler — they say that’s not a good thing…” He then laughed and said, “I shouldn’t have said that.”
Fuentes has questioned the Holocaust, criticized interracial marriage and defended Jim Crow-era segregation. The ADL describes him as “a white supremacist leader and podcaster who seeks to forge a white nationalist alternative to the mainstream GOP.”

Tarrio, 38, has previously faced charges: He was sentenced to five months in jail for setting fire to a Black Lives Matter banner stolen from a historic Black church in Washington, D.C.
“I’m pretty brown, I’m Cuban. There’s nothing white supremacist about me,” Tarrio told Insider in 2020.
But Tarrio was suspended from Twitter in 2019 for posting anti-immigrant threats, has denigrated transgender people and has used racist language to describe a Black actor.
But, but, but: There are limits to how accepted some far-right Latino activists can become in white supremacist and neo-Nazi circles, Mark Pitcavage, a senior research fellow at the ADL’s Center on Extremism, told Axios.
Some extremists on 4chan and 8chan say Fuentes’ Latino heritage disqualifies him from speaking on white supremacy, Pitcavage said. Meanwhile, some white supremacist elements of the Proud Boys dismiss Tarrio as a leader but so far he has withstood the criticism, said Pitcavage, who monitors the chats.
Tarrio’s lawyer, Lucas Dansie, did not respond to emails seeking comment. Fuentes’ American First Foundation also did not respond to requests for comment.
What we’re watching: U.S. Latinos identifying as multiracial soared during the last decade, while those identifying as solely white dropped significantly, according to the latest census.”

Here are some interesting facts about the dandelion flower:
The dandelion is the only flower that represents the 3 celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars. ☀️ 🌙 ⭐️. The yellow flower resembles the sun, the puff ball resembles the moon and the dispersing seeds resemble the stars.
The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes in the evening to go to sleep. 😴
Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves, flower. It can be used for food, medicine and dye for coloring.
Up until the 1800s people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions and other useful “weeds” like chickweed, malva, and chamomile.
The name dandelion is taken from the French word “dent de lion” meaning lion’s tooth, referring to the coarsely-toothed leaves. 🦁
Dandelions have one of the longest flowering seasons of any plant.
Dandelion seeds are often transported away by a gust of wind and they travel like tiny parachutes. Seeds are often carried as many as 5 miles from their origin!
Animals such as birds, insects and butterflies consume nectar or seed of dandelion.🐦 🐛 🐜 🦋 🐝.
Dandelion flowers do not need to be pollinated to form seed.
Dandelion can be used in the production of wine and root beer. Root of dandelion can be used as a substitute for coffee. 🍷 🍺
Dandelions have sunk their roots deep into history. They were well known to ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, and have been used in Chinese traditional medicine for over a thousand years.
Dandelion is used in folk medicine to treat infections and liver disorders. Tea made of dandelion act as diuretic.
If you mow dandelions, they’ll grow shorter stalks to spite you.
Dandelions are, quite possibly, the most successful plants that exist, masters of survival worldwide. 💪
A not so fun fact: Every year countries spend millions on lawn pesticides to have uniform lawns of non-native grasses, and we use 30% of the country’s water supply to keep them green.
Wow. I have always loved Dandelions, but I never thought to check them out like this. Thanks for making me wiser.
How to Spot a Fraudulent Website
MARSHALL GUNNELL
The internet is home to roughly 1.7 billion websites. Unfortunately, many of these websites live only to scam you out of your personal data or money. Here are a few signs to look out for to spot a fraudulent website.
Table of Contents
Double-Check the URL Name
Look For the Padlock, Then Look Harder
Check the Site’s Privacy and Return Policies
Check For Poor Spelling, Grammar, and UI
Use a Site Scanner
What to Do If You’ve Been Scammed
Double-Check the URL Name
The first thing you should do before visiting a site is ensure that the domain name is the one you intend to visit. Fraudsters create fake sites masquerading as an official entity, usually in the form of an organization you would likely recognize, such as Amazon, PayPal, or Wal-Mart. Sometimes the difference between the real site’s name and the fraudulent site’s name is almost unnoticeable. For example, the cybercriminal may build a site using rnicrosoft.com (note the “r” and “n” at the beginning of that address, which looks similar to an “m”), but you think you’re visiting microsoft.com.
What Should You Do If You Receive a Phishing Email?
There are two basic ways the cybercriminal, or “threat actor,” gets you to visit the fraudulent site. The first way is by a method known as “phishing.” Phishing is a form of cyberattack that is delivered mainly by email. The threat actor tries to entice you to click a link in the email that will then redirect you to a fraudulent copy of the real website.
Another way the threat actor may get you to visit the fraudulent site is by a method known as “typosquatting.” Typosquatting uses common misspellings of domain names (for example, amazom.com) to trick users into visiting fraudulent websites. You think you entered the domain name correctly, but you’re actually visiting a fraudulent copy of the genuine site. If you’re lucky, your web browser will warn you.
A pop-up message asking if you meant to visit a different site.
Regardless of how you get to the site, once you log in to this fraudulent website, the threat actor will harvest your login credentials and other personal data, such as your credit card information, and then use those credentials themselves on the actual website or any other website where you’re using the same login credentials.
The first and most basic method of spotting a fraudulent website is to make sure the domain name is the one you truly intend to visit.
Look For the Padlock, Then Look Harder
When you visit a website, look for the padlock to the left of the URL in the address bar. This padlock indicates that the site is secured with a TLS/SSL certificate, which encrypts data sent between the user and the website.
The SSL certificate padlock.
If the website hasn’t been issued a TLS/SSL certificate, an exclamation mark ( ! ) will appear to the left of the domain name in the address bar. If a site isn’t TLS/SSL certified, any data you send is at risk of being intercepted.
The downside to this is that not all SSL certificates are authentic. These sites are usually caught pretty quickly, but it’s still best to look a little harder at the padlock just to be sure. Unfortunately, you can only dig deeper if you’re browsing the web using a desktop.
First, click the padlock and then click “Connection is Secure” from the context menu.
If the certificate is valid, then you’ll see the “Certificate is Valid” text on the next menu. Go ahead and click that for more details.
A new window displaying the information about the certificate will appear. You can check which site the certificate was issued to, who it was issued by, and its expiration date.
Certificate information.
While this won’t always protect you from fraudsters, the padlock (and the certificate information) is a good indicator that you’re visiting a legitimate site.

Check the Site’s Privacy and Return Policies
Fraudulent websites generally don’t go to the extent that genuine websites go to concerning privacy and return policies, if at all. For example, Amazon has a pretty thorough return policy and privacy policy that details everything the customer needs to know about each respective policy.
If a site has a poorly written return or privacy policy, that should raise some red flags. If a site doesn’t have these policies stated on their website at all, avoid them at all costs, as the site is likely a scam site.
Check For Poor Spelling, Grammar, and UI
A spelling or grammar mistake is likely to happen now and again, even on the most authoritative of websites. However, most websites have teams of professionals creating these websites. If a website looks like it was created in a day by one person, is riddled with spelling and grammar errors, and has a questionable user interface (UI), there’s a chance that you’re visiting a dangerous website.

Use a Site Scanner
If you’d like to add another layer of protection between you and fraudulent websites (and also give you a heads up if you may be visiting one), then use a site scanner such as McAfee SiteAdvisor.
These tools crawl the web and test sites for spam and malware. If you visit a dangerous (or potentially dangerous) site that the program determines may contain dangerous content that could harm your PC, you’ll be notified and asked to confirm you still want to proceed to the site when you try to visit.
A Website Status notification.
While site scanners are helpful in spotting a potentially fraudulent website, not all fraudulent websites will be flagged. While you use them as an extra layer of protection, still be conscious of the sites you visit.
What to Do If You’ve Been Scammed
If you’re a victim of an online scam, there are a few measures you can take to protect yourself (and potentially protect others). What you need to do next depends on what type of information you believe the scammer may have on you.
If you purchased something using your credit or debit card from the fraudulent site, the first thing you should do is call your bank immediately and report to them what happened. They’ll freeze your accounts and cards so that the threat actor can no longer purchase anything with your details.
If you believe the threat actor may also have your personal information, such as your Social Security Number, date of birth, address, and so on, you’ll want to freeze your credit so that the fraudster can’t take out any loans or open any accounts in your name.
Once that’s taken care of, file a report with your local police, notify the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and report the site to Google.
Why You Should Put a Paper Bag in Your Fridge Drawer
SHEA SIMMONS
When it’s time to spring clean your fridge, this task can seem daunting—particularly when it comes to getting rid of strange smells that have built up over time. However, there’s a simple trick to prevent this, and it requires very little work.
All you need to get rid of refrigerator odors is a paper bag.
All you need to do is crinkle up a paper bag, place it in the empty drawer, and allow it to sit for 48 hours. The bag will absorb the smell. You don’t even need to use a paper bag. You can also use some crinkled-up newspaper for the same effect.
This hack works because paper bags and newspapers are fibrous, and when placed in your drawers, those fibers can help to absorb smells. You can also superpower this trick, too. Charcoal is also a quality odor remover. Pop a piece of it or some pellets into the bag, and then, add it into the drawer for even more odor absorption.
If fridge organization is on your spring cleaning list, this might be an easy new cleaning hack for the process.

Intermittent fasting is now becoming popular, with many promised health benefits. But Muslims have been practising fasting in the lunar month of Ramadan for centuries.
The Ramadan for 2022 will start on Saturday April 2 and go for about 30 days. It is then followed by the three-day celebration of Eid.
Significance of Ramadan in Islamic history
Prior to becoming a messenger of God, Muhammad used to withdraw to the Hira mountain top cave. He would meditate in solitude, away from the polytheistic culture of tribal Mecca for the whole month of Ramadan. We are not sure if this retreat involved fasting at the time.
In 610, when he was 40, he again went to the same mountain top to meditate. Several weeks into the retreat, he experienced an angelic form appearing before him, commanding him to read. He replied he did not know how to read. The angelic form squeezed him tight and repeated the command to read. This continued three times, after which the first five verses of the holy Qur’an was revealed:
Read in the name of your Lord who created humans from a piece of flesh. Read, for your Lord is Most Generous. Who taught humans with the pen. Who taught humans what they do not know.
Muhammad still was not able to read in a conventional way, but he understood that he was being asked to read the book of the universe and learn from it, and also understand that it points to its creator.
This incident marked the beginning of Islam, revelation of the Qur’an and the prophetic mission of Prophet Muhammad.
In 624, when Muslims migrated to Medina to escape persecution, the month of Ramadan was declared holy by virtue of the start of the mission of the Prophet and revelation of the Qur’an. Fasting was instituted in this month as one of the five pillars of Islam as a way for believers to show their thanks to God and reflect on the teachings of the Qur’an and its importance for believers.

Who observes Ramadan fasting?
The Ramadan fasting involves stopping eating, drinking and sexual intercourse from dawn to sunset. Practitioners can engage in all these acts once fasting is broken and restart fasting the next dawn. The cycle continues for a whole month.
Ramadan fasting is one of the most observed of all the pillars of Islam, with 70-80% of Muslims practising it. It is obligatory for all Muslims, men and women, from the age of puberty. Parents encourage their children to fast for half a day from the age of ten to condition them to fasting.
There are exemptions. Travellers, elderly, sick, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are exempt from fasting on the condition they make up missing days at a suitable time after Ramadan. The elderly and chronically ill compensate for days not fasted by making a small donation to charity for each day, if they can afford it.
Since fasting is from dawn to sunset, the duration of fasting time changes depending on the season and where a Muslim is located in the world. Near polar regions, fasting can be almost 22 hours in summer or just a few hours in winter.
Spiritual significance and benefits of Ramadan fasting
What may seem to some to be a self-inflicted ordeal has profound meaning for human beings and God, and their reciprocal relationship. God exhibits the perfection of lordship, grace and mercy by making the surface of this Earth a table of blessing, and placing all kinds of sustenance on that table for every creature to enjoy.
In Ramadan, believers show a collective act of worship in the presence of the mighty and universal Mercy as they wait for the divine invitation to the table of blessings at the time of breaking the fast. As the Earth revolves around its axis, the jubilant timeframe is repeated in a continuous manner for the whole month.
Many people forget the fact God is the source of all sustenance. While they readily thank agents of delivery, they forget to remember and thank God as the one who ultimately meets all their needs. God expects the price of thanksgiving for the sustenance he has provided.
True thanksgiving is to know that all sustenance comes directly from God, to acknowledge its value and to feel our own need and dependence on that sustenance.
A fasting person physically feels the value of, and their need for, basic sustenance when they experience the pangs of hunger and thirst. Since a believer fasts for the sake of God, they acknowledge the sustenance, which may be taken for granted, actually comes from God. Therefore, fasting in the Islamic tradition is the best way to show a true and sincere thanksgiving.

Fasting tames the desires. The constant exercise of willpower not to eat, drink or have sexual relations sends a strong message it is the human will, hence the spirit, that is in control.
Fasting is not just about staying hungry or thirsty, it is also to struggle to contain other harmful behaviours. Prophet Muhammad remarked:
Whoever doesn’t give up lying and acting on lies during fasting, then God has no need for him to give up food and drink.
Therefore, the fundamental spiritual benefit of fasting is to exercise the will-power and attain self-control, essential for success in every part of life.
Eid celebrations at the end of Ramadan
Fasting has other personal and social benefits. Through fasting, the rich know what it means to be hungry. Hence, the rich will be more inclined to give charity when they fast. The annual Islamic alms (zakat) are usually paid in Ramadan.
Muslims often invite friends and family members to join in the celebration of the break-fast dinners (iftar). The rich organise dinners for the poor.
In the past few decades, Muslim minorities in western countries have started to invite their non-Muslim friends to iftar dinners. Muslim organisations have annual iftar dinners for their associates and supporters.
In Australia, the NSW premier, for example, has been holding iftar dinners for members of the Muslim community and other faith leaders since 2004. Presidents of the US have also held iftar dinners in the White House.
Ramadan has become a cultural event for everyone.
Ramadan culminates in a three-day celebration (Eid al-Fitr), where Muslims offer a special morning prayer, then visit family and friends. Charity, called fitr, is given to the poor to ensure no one is left out of the celebrations and the joy of success that comes with fasting.
Figs are technically not fruit– they’re actually inverted flowers. They require a specific kind of pollination that can only come from fig wasps (1.5mm big) –wasps that have to DIE INSIDE the fruit in order for the fruit to mature, since figs cannot be pollinated by wind or normal bees.
Edit Per search: Contrary to popular belief, ripe figs are not full of dead wasps and the “crunchy bits” in the fruit are only seeds. The fig actually produces an enzyme called ficain (also known as ficin) which digests the dead wasp and the fig absorbs the nutrients to create the ripe fruits and seeds.
Wow! That was way interesting. Dude, you need to own up to shit this good.
I love knowledge about shit like this.
PrP I keep coming back because you attract dudes like this
Now that is fascinating. I absolutely love figs and never knew any such info that you have just shared. Mother Nature is amazing.
What Is a Mobile Hotspot?
GAURAV SHUKLA
Mobile hotspots offer a convenient way to share internet access with multiple devices. But how do they work, and do you need to pay for them? Here’s everything you need to know about a mobile hotspot.
A mobile hotspot, also known as a portable hotspot or a personal hotspot, is a wireless access point typically created by a dedicated piece of hardware or software on your smartphone. Whereas your home network’s connection comes from your ISP, a hotspot shares internet access with nearby devices using its own cellular data connection.
Mobile hotspots generally take a 3G, 4G, or 5G connection and convert it into a Wi-Fi signal for other devices. They are beneficial when you are traveling or spending time outdoors and don’t have access to regular Wi-Fi. It can also come in handy for sharing internet access among friends and family members if they don’t have a data connection of their own.
How Can You Use a Mobile Hotspot?
There are two ways you can set up a mobile hotspot. You can either use the personal hotspot feature on your smartphone or buy a dedicated mobile hotspot device.
Your smartphone’s built-in personal hotspot feature is typically the easiest way to get a mobile hotspot up and running. All modern smartphones come with the personal hotspot feature unless you use a carrier-locked smartphone and your carrier has disabled it.
You can check if the feature is available on your iPhone by navigating to Settings. The Personal Hotspot option is listed below the Mobile Data option. On Android, you’ll find the Wi-Fi hotspot option under “Hotspot & tethering” in the “Network & Internet” settings.
When you enable the personal hotspot feature on your phone, it creates an ad-hoc wireless network that is then used to share the phone’s data connection with other devices. The process of sharing this data connection is also called tethering.
Apart from your smartphone, you can also use a mobile hotspot device, sometimes referred to as a MiFi (short for My Wi-Fi) device, to set up a wireless access point. These hotspot devices are small, battery-powered, and use a SIM card to connect to a cellular network.
Both carriers and device manufacturers sell the MiFi devices. However, the carrier versions are typically locked and come bundled with a SIM card and a plan, whereas you can get SIM-free and unlocked versions from device manufacturers.
How to Enable Portable Hotspot on Your Smartphone
It’s fairly straightforward to activate the mobile hotspot feature on your smartphone. If you have an iPhone and want to use it as a hotspot for another Apple device with the same iCloud account, you don’t have to do anything on your phone. Simply look for your iPhone under Personal Hotspot in wireless networks on your other Apple device and connect to it. However, if you want to offer access to non-Apple devices or Apple devices with a different iCloud account, head to Settings > Personal Hotspot and enable “Allow Others to Join.”
Disable Personal Hotspot on iOS
On Android, the location of the mobile hotspot option may vary on different models. Still, you will typically find it by heading to Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering > Wi-Fi hotspot.
Tap Mobile Hotspot to configure the hotspot
Once you have enabled the mobile hotspot, you can change the Wi-Fi password. It’s always good to have a strong password to keep your hotspot secure.
Do You Need to Pay For Using a Mobile Hotspot?
While cellular service plans for smartphones typically include mobile hotspot access, some carriers may charge extra or need an add-on plan for the personal hotspots. Therefore, it’s best to check with your carrier if your phone’s plan allows mobile hotspot access. Some cell plans even have a separate data quota for mobile hotspots.
On the other hand, you will need to pay for both the device and its data plan if you are going the MiFi device route. Depending on the feature set, the price of a MiFi device can go from $20-30 to a few hundred dollars or even more. In addition, you may even have to get a new line for your MiFi device.
Mobile Hotspot Limitations
While mobile hotspots are very useful, they have certain limitations. For example, a mobile hotspot has a range of around 30-60 feet. If you are out of the device’s range, you won’t be able to connect to the wireless network and use the internet.
As the mobile hotspots tap into the cellular data connection to offer wireless internet, you can only use them where cellular service is available. Therefore, a mobile hotspot won’t do you any good if you are at a remote location without a cellular signal.
How to Find Free Wi-Fi Hotspots When Travelling
The quality of the cellular coverage and network congestion can also impact the data speed offered by a mobile hotspot. So if you are in a limited cellular service area, you will very likely get poor internet speeds, and if you share it among multiple people, things will only worsen.
In addition, running a mobile hotspot is a battery-intensive task. If you are using your smartphone as a hotspot, you can expect a massive drop in its battery backup. And since you require your phone for voice calls and other things, you’ll need to connect a wall adapter or risk discharging it completely. Mi-Fi devices are relatively better in terms of battery backup. They can last longer and don’t eat into your phone’s battery.
Mobile Hotspot vs. Wi-Fi Hotspot
While a mobile hotspot is also a type of Wi-Fi hotspot, we usually refer to public wireless access points when we talk about Wi-Fi hotspots. These are created by wireless routers and found in places such as coffee shops, shopping malls, hotels, airports, and railway stations. Public Wi-Fi hotspots are often free, and you only need a device with wireless connectivity to utilize them.
What Is A Wi-Fi Hotspot (and Are They Safe to Use)?
The one significant difference between mobile hotspots and Wi-Fi hotspots is security. As a mobile hotspot is typically private, created by you or someone you know, and accessible only to people you know, it is relatively secure. On the other hand, Wi-Fi hotspots are public and accessible to everyone. This can allow a malicious person to eavesdrop on your internet traffic and potentially steal login credentials and other private information. That said, you can protect yourself while using a Wi-Fi hotspot by using a good VPN.
What to Look For in a MiFi Device
While Wi-Fi tethering on your smartphone is a quick and easy way to set up a mobile hotspot, some people may prefer a dedicated mobile hotspot device. So when you are picking up a mobile hotspot, it’s a good idea to consider where you will use it or what you expect from it.
A MiFi device with 5G support makes most sense if you want faster internet. You will also want support for dual-band Wi-Fi as the 5GHz band allows faster data transfer speeds than the 2.4Ghz band. Netgear’s Nighhawk M5 is an excellent mobile hotspot device with support for 5G and dual-band Wi-Fi.
How to Get Wi-Fi on the Road
Although carriers are phasing out 3G in the United States, 3G networks are still widespread in many developing countries. So if you are traveling to a country where 3G networks are common, ensure your mobile hotspot device supports them.
People who are likely to remain away from a plug point will want a mobile hotspot device with longer battery life. Some MiFi devices also support fast charging technologies like Quick Charge, which can come in handy.
Additionally, MiFi devices with a touch panel allow easier access to device settings, and the display can show your connection details.
There is also a case to be made for SIM-free MiFi devices, particularly if you are traveling internationally. Rather than dealing with expensive data charges on roaming, you can simply switch to a local SIM with cheaper data rates. Unfortunately, this is not possible on carrier-locked MiFi devices. However, some carriers may allow device unlocking after 60-days of purchase. The Netgear Unite Explore is a great example of a SIM-free MiFi device that can connect up to 15 devices
What Do “Cap” and “No Cap” Mean on the Internet?
VANN VICENTE
On the internet, “cap” means “a lie,” while “capping” means “lying.” It’s one of the most popular slang terms of the last few years, with widespread use on social networks, internet memes, and direct messages. It’s also a common pop-culture term, with plenty of recent song lyrics and TV show dialogue referencing “cap” and “capping.”
Just as common as “cap” is the slang phrase “no cap,” which means that you’re being honest about something. You can use it to assure others that you’re being forthcoming, especially if they’re expressing doubts. For example, you might tell your friend, “I’m feeling a lot better, no cap,” after recovering from sickness. No cap shares similarities with a few other common slang phrases, such as “keeping it real.”
This slang term is unique in that it has a lot of different variations, all of which are related but have distinct meanings. Here’s a summary of the various ways people can use the word:
Cap: A lie or something contested.
Capping: Someone deliberately lying.
No Cap: Swearing that you’re honest or expressing that you’re completely serious about something.
That’s Cap: Catching someone in the act of lying or expressing disbelief in something.
Stop Capping: A request said to someone, asking them to stop lying.
The History of Capping
While the first usage of “cap” as “lying” isn’t entirely clear, it significantly predates the internet. A video documentary by Genius, the music lyrics website, suggests that “cap” was popularized through hip-hop music. They cite that the first instance of “capping” appearing in song lyrics is from a 1985 EP from California rapper Too Short, with variations of the term appearing in rap songs throughout the next few decades.
Mentions of the phrase “no cap” in hip-hop songs grew drastically in 2017 and 2018, which coincides with its rise in mainstream popularity. While the first entry for “cap” on Urban Dictionary dates back to 2011, the initial entry for “no cap” is from much later in 2018. Eventually, the term and its variations rose to popularity on social media platforms and Internet memes.
As with many slang terms these days, people on the internet have found a way to make it even shorter — even if “cap” itself is only three letters. Under most devices, an emoji appears as a blue baseball cap, also called the “billed cap” emoji (🧢). In the last few years, this emoji has become a symbolic representation of capping.
If you hop onto a viral TikTok or Instagram post that seems packed with lies, you might see people in the comments section spamming the “cap” emoji. One effect of this shift is that you rarely see this emoji referring to a hat; it almost always means dishonesty. You might also see this emoji in conjunction with “no,” as in “no cap.”
“That’s Cap!”
A common way to use cap as a slang term is to type the phrase, “that’s cap.” People often say this when they catch someone in the act of lying or they’re pointing out that a recent statement is a lie.
You can also say “that’s cap” when you’re expressing disbelief in something, even if you’re not sure if it’s untrue. So, for example, if someone’s telling you an incredulous story about how they managed to finish Elden Ring in 3 hours, you might say, “that’s cap,” because you find it unbelievable.
While “you’re lying” and “that’s cap” are essentially synonyms, there are a few notable differences. Saying that something is cap can be non-accusatory and instead deployed to tease a friend lightly. For example, if your friend is bragging about a fantastic accomplishment, you might say “that’s cap” as a joke.

How to Use “Cap”
Cap is somewhat unwieldy as a slang term. On top of being a synonym to “lying” on many parts of the internet, saying cap adds a certain flair to your messages. You might say “cap” if you’re engaging in witty banter with your friends or commenting on an Instagram post, but you probably won’t say it if you’re arguing with a family member.
Here are a few examples of “cap” and its variants in action. Notice how “cap” is doing something slightly different in each of these sentences:
“Stop capping, dude!”
“That’s cap. There’s no way that happened.”
“I’m going to buy that house one day, no cap.”
“You’re capping. I was just there yesterday.”
“Cap. It’s written all over your face.”
Those of you being tracked by various governments through your cell phones and/or your laptops need to get a working Faraday bag to protect against it. Do insure it also blocks RFID signals also.
This is your last warning, if you don’t comply, you will be returned to your motherships.
How to Locate a Hidden or Lost Bluetooth Device
BENJ EDWARDS
If you suspect there is a hidden Bluetooth device in your house, apartment, or office—or you just lost a Bluetooth-capable device—there’s an easy way to track down its physical location thanks to an app on iPhone and Android. Here’s how to do it.
The Bluetooth Beacon
All devices with Bluetooth running in an activated state emit a constant signal that can be picked up by other Bluetooth-capable devices. This is how they send data wirelessly—and also how the devices connect to one another.
What Is Bluetooth?
Using this property of Bluetooth, an app called Wunderfind for iPhone or Android can help you physically locate a lost, hidden, or unknown Bluetooth device using your smartphone. This includes PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones, Bluetooth headphones, Airpods, smartwatches, smart home devices, and more. To locate any of these devices through Bluetooth signals, however, they have to be powered on with Bluetooth enabled.
Wunderfind is free to use without any annoying ads, and the Pro version that offers extra features is currently a reasonable $5 in-app purchase (as of May 2022). There are other Bluetooth tracker apps out there, but we’ve found some of them to have predatory app subscriptions or intrusive ads. Wunderfind currently has none of those problems. Here’s how to use it.
How to Locate a Hidden or Lost Bluetooth Device With WunderFind
To find an active Bluetooth device, first make sure you have Bluetooth enabled on your smartphone. Next, download Wunderfind for your iPhone or Android device and launch the app. Immediately, you’ll see a list of Bluetooth devices that your smartphone has detected using its built-in Bluetooth radio.
Beside each device, you’ll notice an estimated distance between your smartphone’s current location and the hidden or missing Bluetooth device. This number changes dynamically as you move around. To get more detail about signal strength, tap one of the items on the list.
Estimate the distance to ELK-BLEDOM using Wunderfind.
After tapping an item, you’ll see a screen that instructs you to move around while holding your smartphone and watching the signal strength of the targeted Bluetooth device change.
Wunderfind Bluetooth signal strength screen.
As you get closer to the target device, the signal strength will rise closer to 100%. As you move away from the target device, the signal strength will drop closer to 0%. Using this readout, you can move around your space until the signal strength can’t get any higher. If the device is lost and is located is in your home or office, it will be nearby.
How to Detect Hidden Surveillance Cameras With Your Phone
If the device is unknown and you can’t find it, it might be in someone else’s home, office, or apartment. Or it might be purposely hidden somewhere nearby. It’s worth nothing that most hidden surveillance cameras use Wi-Fi and not Bluetooth to communicate, since Bluetooth typically has a short wireless range, and someone would have to be nearby to receive the data. (You cannot detect Wi-Fi-only cameras with Wunderfind, but there are other methods that will help.)
In the past, we’ve seen a mystery Bluetooth device called “ELK-BLEDOM” in our Bluetooth lists and discovered it was a neighbor’s LED Strip Light, so don’t assume you’re being spied on if you can’t find the unknown device in your home or office—you are very likely picking up a neighbor’s Bluetooth device that is sending stray signals in your direction. Good luck, and stay safe out there!

Why Unlimited Mobile Data Isn’t Actually Unlimited
JOE FEDEWA
“Unlimited” is a big word in the mobile world. Everyone wants a data plan with no limitations. That’s why carriers love to use the word, but “Unlimited” rarely means truly unlimited. There are a few reasons for that.
There was a time when unlimited data plans were truly unlimited. You paid a certain amount every month and you could use as much data as you wanted. However, as more of the world has adopted smartphones, these plans have gone
The biggest catch in most “unlimited” data plans is speed limits. It’s common practice for unlimited plans to only allow access to high-speed data for a set amount, such as 25GB. After you use that much data, your speed gets throttled down.
In reality, the only thing that’s actually “unlimited” is how much data you can use. It says nothing about the limits placed on the data speeds. You’re more than welcome to use more than those 10GB, but the connection is going to be much slower after that.
Another common tactic that “unlimited” plans use to limit your data usage is video streaming quality caps. Certain “unlimited” plans won’t allow you to watch YouTube or Netflix at their highest quality.
It makes sense from the perspective of the carrier. Streaming video at 1080p or 4K resolution uses a lot more data. By capping the quality they can offer “unlimited” data while still limiting how much data you use.
What happens when a lot of people are trying to access a network at the same time? That’s when de-prioritization kicks in. Carriers will throttle speeds to ease the congestion on the network, but it’s not always fair.
This is typically more of a problem on MVNOs than it is on major carriers. However, it’s still a way to limit how much data you’re using. If you’re on a lower tier of “unlimited” plan, you may be de-prioritized in favor of those who pay more.
What’s Actually “Unlimited”?
Clearly, there are a lot of limits on these “unlimited” plans. Limits on speed, limits on video quality, and limits on priority. So what part of it is truly unlimited? As mentioned, it’s typically only the amount of data you use.
There could be nothing stopping you from burning through 50GB of data in a month, but that doesn’t say anything about how you get to that 50GB. It could be on slow speeds with 480p video and constantly being de-prioritized for higher-paying customers.
Do Truly Unlimited Plans Exist?
Does all of this mean there are no truly unlimited plans available? No, but they’re harder to find and they’re not cheap. For example, AT&T has a truly unlimited plan that has no data speed limit or video quality caps. The catch? It’s $85 per month for one line.
Carriers are willing to offer truly unlimited plans, but you’re going to pay a lot for it. The “unlimited” plans are cheaper and often sound better to most people. Just make sure you know what you’re paying for

What Is an Ethernet Cable?
GAURAV SHUKLA
If you’ve ever shopped for home networking, there is an excellent chance you have heard about Ethernet cables. But what are they for, why would you want to use them, and how do they differ?
A Reliable Network Connection
An Ethernet cable is a cable that you connect between your computer, TV, gaming console, or another device and a router, modem, or network switch. It gives your device access to a local network or the internet. Although Wi-Fi has become a very common way of connecting to the internet, an Ethernet cable can provide a faster and more stable internet connection than wireless currently can.
Ethernet cables typically use RJ-45 connectors on both ends and can be as long as 300 feet. Additionally, there are no upstream or downstream ports in an Ethernet cable, so you can plug whichever end you want into a router or your computer.
As mentioned, Ethernet cables are primarily used to access a local network or the internet. But you can also use them to establish a direct connection between two devices.
How Much Better Is Ethernet Over Wi-Fi?
The speed of a wired connection depends on several things, such as the router’s speed, the Ethernet cable category (more on that later), and the capabilities of your device. That said, most modern Ethernet connections are capable of routinely delivering 1Gbps or higher speeds, faster than common Wi-Fi connections, even Wi-Fi 6.
Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet: How Much Better Is a Wired Connection?
Additionally, since Ethernet cables provide a direct-wired connection, you get a more reliable and consistent experience than Wi-Fi. You also don’t have to worry about distance from a wireless router or the obstacles in between.
Apart from speed and reliability, an Ethernet cable can also reduce your connection’s latency, which is critical, mainly if you are playing online games.
Lastly, Ethernet cables can also be better for network security and control than Wi-Fi. As devices are connected using a cable, it’s hard for outsiders to access your network or its data without physical access.
Categories of Ethernet Cables
Just like any other technology, not all Ethernet cables are made equal. Instead, there are different categories, each with a different level of capabilities and features, but mainly the speed.
Not All Ethernet Cables Are Equal: You Can Get Faster LAN Speeds By Upgrading
While looking for Ethernet cables, you may have noticed that they are labeled Cat-5, Cat-5e, or Cat-6. “Cat” here is short for Category, and the number represents the specification supported by it. Although there have been cable categories from 1 to 4, they are either obsolete or technically not recognized as part of the Ethernet standard. That means you don’t have to worry about anything below Cat-5. Even Cat-5 itself is pretty old and not recommended for any fresh installation, but you may still find it in circulation or existing installations.
The Category-5 (Cat-5) cables can support data transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps and have a bandwidth of 100MHz, but they don’t come with any shielding. Shielding helps protect the cable from electromagnetic interference from an outside source.
The Category-5e (Cat-5e) cables are an improved version of the Cat-5. It’s not an officially-designated category, but the Cat-5e cables can support up to 1Gbps of speed, 100MHz bandwidth, and are built with better resistance to cross-talk. Cat-5e is the most common Ethernet cable you will currently find in the consumer market.
Compared to Cat-5e, a Category-6 cable is a big step up. While they are rated for only 1Gbps speeds over longer distances, you can get up to 10Gbps at shorter distances of up to 37 meters (121 feet). This is possible because of better shielding and the higher 250MHz bandwidth.
A Fast, Reliable Connection

This Cat-6 cable has almost 100,000 Amazon reviews and comes with enough length to reach the far corners of your house.
Category-6a is a more advanced version of the Cat-6 specification. It supports double the bandwidth of Cat-6 at 500MHz and up to 10Gbps speeds up to 100 meters.
Category-7 is an outlier. It was ratified as a standard before Cat-6a, but it still hasn’t seen much adoption despite supporting speeds of 10Gbps up to 100 meters and a bandwidth of 600MHz. Part of the reason why Cat-7 isn’t so popular is its proprietary nature. It was developed by a group of companies and is not an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard. It’s also not approved by Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). Additionally, the Cat-7 cables use a proprietary connector.
The Category-7a is an advancement over Cat-7 and supports 40Gbps speeds up to 50 meters, and 100Gbps speeds up to 15 meters. Unfortunately, despite being quite capable, it has suffered the same fate as Cat-7 as it has the same problems, being a proprietary standard.
Among the TIA and IEEE-approved standards, the Category-8 cables come after Cat-6a. Cat-8 cables support up to 2000MHz bandwidth and are rated for 25Gbps or 40Gbps speeds up to 30 meters. It’s definitely an improvement, but a Cat-8 cable will usually be more expensive than lower categories.
As you’re considering your options, keep in mind that, with the right tools, you can cut your own Ethernet cables so that you always have exactly the right length for what you need.
