genderqueer: TGNC

Genderqueer, also known as nonbinaryis a catch-all category for gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine‍—‌identities that are outside the gender binary and cisnormativity. Genderqueer people may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression. “

TGNC = transgender nonconforming”

This is Alok Vaid-Menon and articulates the above

I found Alok via their instafeed. Under the video, they had written this comment and I found it sad that people are so judgey, but yet it’s totally predictable behavior for humans. They limit themselves in their own reality; their trait to see things only in their own image:

My @nowthisnews video is on IGTV ! I get so many hateful comments about this from both cis & trans people because of my appearance. The emphasis on the bodies & appearance of TGNC people distracts from where the real focus should be: the systematic discrimination we face, the policies that make our lives unlivable, and the gender binary. We should be trying to end gender normativity, not re-create it. Trans respectability will not save us. There are as many ways to be & look trans as there are trans people. Certainly if you want to look like a conventional man or woman, that’s your choice. But we should not have to look like men or women, we should not have to conform to be real & safe.

Representation does have power.
