We have an important interest in the welfare of Guam. I suspect that we should visit China with one of our special natural disasters to show it that we are not happy with this situation:
Chinese personnel recently secured a provisional military agreement with the Solomon Islands. The archipelago of 700,000 individuals nestles in the heart of Oceania, providing China with a key strategic outpost to expand its international coalition. Initial reports suggested China would build a military fortress in the islands; however, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s administration pledged to “not be careless to allow such initiative to take place under its watch.” Nevertheless, the agreement could allow Chinese defense officials, police, and supplies to replenish the Solomon Islands with formidable aid. It appears as if China’s blossoming sphere of influence encroaches closer to the United States and its territories with every coming day.

I may be a lowly human but I have to ask. Is Guam really in peril? Sure the precarious geopolitical climate with China and North Korea seemingly poised to nuke Guam prompts you to consider that Guam is in peril. But have you considered that the Biden administration requested $900 million in defense support for Guam only days after the unprecedented arrangement between China and the Solomon Islands. $539 million would be allocated towards “multiple land-based radar systems, procur[ing] weapon system components and initiat[ing] (military construction) planning and design activities.”

Although North Korea’s expanding ballistic capabilities persist as a looming danger in the region, with the communist dictatorship’s erratic decision-making serving as a constant source of caution, I think that the US is prepared to defend Guam. So do you still think that earthquakes, monsoons or other natural disasters should be used to harm the general population of China?

      • Robert says:

As we witness Russia’s ruthless rampage in Ukraine and China’s ongoing threats to Taiwanese sovereignty, Guam is no longer an invulnerable pillar of American hegemony. Thus, the Biden Administration’s strengthening of Guam’s defenses serves as an acknowledgment of an escalating threat level and could foreshadow widespread militarization of the Indo-Pacific.

      • Juanita says:

I agree with the aliens. Guam, a politically voiceless remnant of US imperialism, has long been ignored by Congress and the American people. However, as China and the United States compete for economic and military supremacy, the island’s fate could once again be thrust into the spotlight. The tense climate is by no means alarming but characterizes an intriguing worldwide dynamic that should be stringently monitored.

    Did You Know?

The giant storm on Jupiter, nicknamed The Great Red Spot, has been raging for centuries, but is slowly dying down. NASA researchers estimate that the storm may completely dissipate within the next few decades.

    • Roberta says:

Helen, and Helena, I like your “Did You Know” Posts. I was referred to this blog by a Michelle blog fan and she said that this was a great addition. I thought of another possible, a “How To”. I’d like you and Helena to join me. Here’s my first post on it.

How to Unblock YouTube With a VPN

If you’re trying to unblock a serious block, one put up by a government censor or a particularly zealous network administrator, a proxy won’t do it. You’ll have to use a VPN. A VPN will reroute and encrypt your connection, making it easier to escape detection.

The upside is that, besides YouTube, you’ll be able to unlock all kinds of other streaming sites, too, like Netflix. Other VPN benefits include the ability to torrent files with more privacy and, of course, thumb your nose at any censors trying to keep you from reading the news.

        Did You Know?

The term “hair of the dog” originated in medieval times, when rabies was treated by placing the hair of the dog that bit someone into the wound. However I don’t think drinking more alcohol to relieve a hangover works? Anybody know for sure?

        • Victor says:

Helena I have an answer for you. The idea is that having a bit of alcohol will ward off hangover symptoms, and the thing is, it does sort of work.

When you have a hangover, the elevated alcohol concentration in your body drops suddenly leaving you with symptoms like nausea, headache, and fatigue. These symptoms are at their worst when the level of alcohol hits zero.

When you take a drink first thing in the morning in order to alleviate these symptoms, you introduce alcohol back into your system. This could provide a temporary reprieve, but eventually, you’ll stop drinking and those symptoms will return.

How do you get over a hangover? Unfortunately, the answer is time. Once your body has processed the alcohol, you can do small things like drink plenty of water to stave off any potential dehydration, eat nutritious food (as long as you can stomach it), and get lots of rest. That’s about it.

Have you seen the news that Netflix is losing subscribers? It’s no surprise as the service has been raising prices. Now, Netflix is signaling it wants to crack down on password sharing—Netflix estimates that 100 million households are sharing passwords. Turning more of those households into paying subscribers could be very good for Netflix’s bottom line.

I say get a good VPN and continue sharing Netflix and any other overcharging streaming service.

Does Mayonnaise Make Food Spoil Faster?

When it comes to food storage and safety, there are a lot of rules to follow. There are also a lot of myths out there. One of them involves all those chicken and pasta salads, and any other mayonnaise-based dish you stash in the fridge.
You might have heard before that mayonnaise will make food spoil faster, but is this true? Well, as it turns out, this long-standing myth isn’t just untrue, it’s the opposite of what actually happens.
To be specific, we’re talking about commercially made mayonnaise here—not the homemade stuff. When you look at the back of the jar, you’ll notice that not only do most brands consist of oil, egg yolk, and acid, but they’re also full of preservatives.
Mix those with the acid and pasteurized yolks that can kill certain bacteria, and you’ve got a condiment that actually helps food stay fresh longer.
In fact, there was a study published in the Journal of Food Protection that proved it. In the research, store-bought mayo was added to contaminated chicken and ham. When stored, the mayonnaise helped to slow down or stop salmonella and staph from growing.
So, next time you make chicken salad, you don’t have to be concerned about the mayonnaise. As long as you store your leftovers correctly, you’ll be able to enjoy them to the very last bite.

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has determined the size of the largest icy comet nucleus ever seen by astronomers. The estimated diameter is approximately 80 miles across, making it larger than the state of Rhode Island. The nucleus is about 50 times larger than found at the heart of most known comets. Its mass is estimated to be a staggering 500 trillion tons, a hundred thousand times greater than the mass of a typical comet found much closer to the Sun.

The behemoth comet, C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein) is barreling this way at 22,000 miles per hour from the edge of the solar system. But not to worry. It will never get closer than 1 billion miles away from the Sun, which is slightly farther than the distance of the planet Saturn. And that won’t be until the year 2031…

    • P]5 says:

However, the mothership sitting in Jupiter’s orbit will have to deal with it. I suspect you will discover that it met with an irresistible force sometime before 2031.

    Did You Know?

The production of cheese predates written history, but historians estimate that it likely coincided with the domestication of sheep around 8000 BCE and there is archaeological evidence from 5500 BCE of milk strainers used, presumably, in cheese production.

  7. Robert says:

This is pretty much in line with the estimates of pretty much every military expert on Russia’s capacity to wage war. We’ve been told for weeks that Russia will not under any circumstances engage in urban warfare… that in order to do so, an army must have at least 4 (and some of these experts have said as much as 8) soldiers for every one the enemy has in that scenario, which Russia simply does not have. Urban war is by GREAT lengths the most difficult kind of war to prosecute, and Russia has neither the manpower nor the resources nor the very specialized training nor the morale to do conduct this kind of war. That if they enter the cities, their men will begin to peel off every single day. The fact remains that this is Putin acknowledging in his way that his pathetic army couldn’t even beat farmers and teachers in the most basic, “easy” kind of war for a heavily mechanized military like his to fight, open ground. How would they ever fight in a city? Hey, did you guys know that an NLAW is the first anti-tank weapon that can be fired from within the room of building, high above a street? You didn’t use to be able to do that. Putin certainly knows, and you can almost literally see him shaking in that slouchy, defeated video he just made.

  8. Anonymous says:

When does a mans power and anger reach the point of ending it all for revenge? We see anger doing it every day as things get worse. When will Putin snap? We see people snapping more and more each day. Sure glad to be 81. Find myself only being concerned because of young friends and family. I sure do not feel sorry for humanity after watching how they let nearly a million die from this virus. Most do not even care enough to wear a mask. Many would not even take the risk of being vaccinated.

  9. Kylo says:

If we get the Howitzers that we need in time we can set them up to fire 40,000 artillery rounds into those areas Russians are holding. Putin can not occupy it for any use. It will be a death trap for his troops. But time is of the essence. We need those supplies NOW!

  10. James says:

Is it possible that you live in the U.S. & are fed propaganda just like people in North Korea are? Is it possible that the U.S. & NATO accelerated this for their own shadowy gain? I only ask because I’ve been told by U.S. media, countless times, that Russia is in way over its head & that they’re finished. This news suggests otherwise.

  11. Greta says:

India and China are aligned with Russia. The happen to be the two countries that greedy capitalists in America rely on for cheap labor. Don’t forget Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Venezuela and the old allies of Cuba, Syria, and some African countries— are all forming alliances with Russia. The new Cold War of the Free vs the Non-free, will be a formidable conflict.

  12. Cynthia says:

Sadly, there may be no Ukraine at the end of this war…only Russia.

  13. Mark says:

Unfortunately for Vladimir Stupedovich, even if he wins the fighting, he lost the war in the first 4 days. Now the entire world knows how inept, untrained and under equipped his military actually is. Other than nukes, he has taken Russia back 50 years and detroyed any hope for a meaningful legacy for himself. But hey, he’s still got the $277 billion he stole from the Russian people.

  14. Igor says:

always find Putin’s comments about “threatening Russia” amusing. It’s not like anyone actually wants Russia. Russians don’t even really want it — there’s a reason that Russia has such a huge alcohol and drug problem. What he’s really saying is “threaten me.” Unfortunately, that’s a concern. He’s completely nuts and is the natural outcome of unchecked wealth and power.

Putin should be a clear example why billionaires shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

  15. Michelle says:

Once again women and girls are the biggest victims of war. These victims are mothers, sisters, daughters, but these pathetic cowardly excuse of a man in the Russian military, couldn’t care less. They aren’t winning the war against their own kind so they prey on the only ones around they know they can exert their power on: vulnerable women and girls.
