lunar regolith and EMUs

Exploration is dirty work! Advanced spacesuits will protect the first woman and person of color on the Moon from the harsh lunar environment. Lunar soil isn’t simple dust like what we have on Earth; it is irregular, sharp, and fine and it creates challenges for spacesuit engineers.

There is no key to the front door of 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister. The door is attended twenty four hours a day by a guard who is responsible for opening the door (and keeping it locked from the inside).

Humans will never discover that Pure Logic can give what nothing else can: the ability to search for beauty outside one’s self, to try to grasp something external, objective and true, in a way that opens you up more than emotional backed reasoning ever can. You don’t think about your small self. There’s no place for ego. Unlike emotional beings, you are never motivated by the desire for recognition. You just want to be capable of clear, sound reasoning.

    • Sonia says:

The human heart, mind, and soul can distinguish an infinite number of emotional, psychological, and moral shadings. Purely logical beings can see only one shade. Hence, they can only arrive at a cause, explanation, or justification for an action or event. That works fine when the action or event is not one that involves a sentient being causing the action or event. When a sentient being is involved, there are a multitude of possibilities that could explain the motives of that being, not just the What, but also the Why. Logic misses the Why the being caused the action or event to happen. Sometimes the Why is just as important as What.

      • H]11 says:

What do I care concerning the “Why” a sentient being uses the electromagnetic field of his weapon to harm another being or thing? All I need to know is that photons of light are the quantum excitation of a electromagnetic field to devise a suitable defense for the weapon.

As tensions between China and the United States continue to escalate, the Pentagon strengthens its Pacific infrastructure and logistics, which would serve as a launching pad for U.S. attacks if a conflict broke out between the two in the Indo-Pacific. To that end, the Pacific territory of Tinian has come into focus along with Guam.

Chickens might run around for a moment after their head is cut off, but snakes have a bit more of a serious reaction to decapitation; there are cases of snake heads still biting people up to 90 minutes after removal from the body.

I was talking with S[6 yesterday and I discovered that sometimes we aliens aren’t arriving at the same interpretations when it comes to understanding the human cliche speak. We were comparing the number of human males we eat and I said that I was at risk of becoming obese because I would eat those that proved to be 5’s or less who were courting me. She agreed with me and said that she had to go up to get new bodies all too often because of all the 10s she was eating.

I was startled for a moment, then I said with a bit of frustration, “why are you eating 10s, when most of us alien women can’t even find ones above 5?” So her logic was to invite me to go out with her with a 10 and see if I could resist eating the disgusting male. I was so eager to meet a 10 that I agreed immediately.

She called her date and he agreed to take us both out for dinner and an evening show. All he did at dinner was to hint how much money he had and that he was not above a twosome. At the show, when S[6 left to make a ladies visit to relieve herself, he actually propositioned me. The creep gave me his telephone number and asked me for mine. I arranged to meet him the following day at my place. I knew that S[6 would enjoy eating him with me.

After we finished eating the creep, (he was delicious so I guess it was not all that bad.), I asked S[6 why she rated him a 10? She said that his money, the way he dressed, and the fact that she figured he would be a tasty snack, made him about a 10 out of 100. I cracked up!

How will the Navigator react when he learns that the technology he gave the Americans to enable them to use air balloons to track moving ground targets, provide communications and intercept electronic signals is being used to track drug traffickers?

    • N/*2 says:

The Navigator anticipated the arrival of hypersonic weapons and gave the US that balloon technology to help track and deter hypersonic weapons being developed by China and Russia. They can assist satellites in tracking the missiles. The teardrop-shaped balloons harvest complex data and navigate using AI algorithms. All was cleared beforehand.

The Yurok tribe is to be brought up Whole. They received the Iklodhs centuries ago and assisted them as they transformed into various earth animals. It is not their fault that they couldn’t continue that assistance because of the genocidal attacks they experienced from white settlers. Within 3 years of the white contact 75 percent of the Yurok had died from massacres and disease. Large swaths of their lands had been devastated by logging. Government agents and missionaries tried to force native people to discard their language, culture, and religious beliefs. Yurok children were taken from their parents and placed in boarding schools in Salem, Oregon, and Riverside, California. There they were forbidden to speak their own language and suffered many forms of abuse.

The Iklodhs were forbidden from assisting the Yurok then. Now they want to insure that they are saved as a tribe.

We are using our technology on earth in ways never thought of before now that we see the possible end of the earth as a viable planet for humans. This new activity of using cartography and mapmaking to enable us to look back into the geological past of earth allows us to see what might happen in the future. This technology allows us to go back in earth’s geologic time, even back to the last ice age. That’s a really long time from a human scale and a human perspective, but in a geologic timescale, it’s just a blip.

Will humans use this knowledge if they planet is somehow saved to better the planet?

Hello witches! My name is Crystal and I am a very disheartened witch in California. I’m beyond disgusted with the SCOTUS and their desire to shove the Christian God up everyones ass’s and down their throats. In response to religious freedom under the first amendment I have created a ”church” technically a legally recognized legal religious charter that is registered with the California Secretary of States office that has to be recognized as a religion. I give you Temple of the Pussy, a nondenominational witches coven loosely based on the Egyptian Goddess Bastet. I want to ensure that wherever religious zealots go to express their religious freedom in state/governmental venues, we will also be legally allowed to say a blessing involving pentagrams and anything else that makes them uncomfortable. I am an advocate for the separation of church and state and this is the only thing that I can think of that may bare consequence. I’d reallly love any advise, help and support from you all. I’m working on a FB page. So far I have ordained my orange cat Gingy as a high priest. It should be ridiculous after all. But I really do hope that we can use this as an instrument of protest.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and Anglican Communion, St. Denis is considered the patron saint of headaches (along with frenzy, strife, hydrophobia, and possessed people), a somewhat ironic patronage given that St. Denis was beheaded shortly after 250 AD.

So I guess if you don’t have a head, you don’t have a headache. The fucked up mind of men on full display.

Another reason why the movie industry wanted to eliminate DVD and VHS storage devices. If all you have are your movies saved in digital storage, you are truly fucked.

Your Digital Movies Will Not Last Forever, and Sony Just Proved It
    CORBIN DAVENPORT @corbindavenport
Sony used to sell movies and TV shows through the PlayStation store, but that ended in August 2021. Existing purchases were still available, though some of them are now starting to disappear — another sign digital collections don’t last forever.

Variety and 4K Filme report that hundreds of movies from French film distributor Studiocanal, as well as some Lionsgate films, will be removed from the libraries of anyone who purchased them in the past. The change only affects people in two countries — Germany and Austria — but it’s never good to see digital purchases suddenly disappear for buyers. The list of affected content includes Paddington 1 & 2, Robocop, American Gods, Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, and The Hunger Games series.

Sony said on the German PlayStation site (translated), “due to our evolving licensing agreements with content providers, you will no longer be able to view your previously purchased Studio Canal content and it will be removed from your video library. We greatly appreciate your continued support.”

The PlayStation Store is mostly intended for buying digital PlayStation games, but Sony also sells other content through the store. You could rent and buy movies and TV shows at one point, but that functionality was shut down in August 2021. Sony said existing purchases would still be playable on the PS4, PS5, and mobile devices… which didn’t turn out to be accurate.

Even though this specific shutdown has a small reach, it’s yet another sign that digital movie purchases (and digital purchases of any kind, really) don’t last forever. The Microsoft Store stopped selling books in 2019, and access to purchased books was removed shortly afterwards, but at least Microsoft offered refunds — something Sony isn’t doing here. UltraViolet, another popular digital library for movies, shut down in 2019 but allowed purchases to be migrated to other services using Movies Anywhere.

If you want to make sure your movies and TV shows aren’t at the whim of contracts between tech companies and distributors, good ‘ol Blu-ray discs are a great option. Many movies come with codes to register digital copies anyway, and you can rip the discs to make your own DRM-free version.

So what about those insect bites?

My favorite suggestion surprises some of my patients: In my view, the most reliable repellent is to be mentally a few steps ahead of the insects. For example, investigate your hedge before trimming it. As I learned the hard way, many years ago, failing to check on insect habitats can end up in a disaster. I got 15 stings on my face and head seconds after slicing through a hornet nest hidden just inside the hedge with my first enthusiastic swipe with the electric hedge trimmer.

Reliable bug repellents are wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants when walking through moist areas where mosquitoes live, checking overhangs and gutters before painting or washing your house, and looking for bees or spiders in the coupler of a trailer or under the shady roof of a dog house before you move them.

If you do have the misfortune of being bitten by a summertime insect, a few natural medicines work well to relieve the pain and speed healing. My immediate, go-to remedy for any kind of bite is T Relief lotion. This homeopathic preparation is available online and over the counter in most natural food stores. Apply a small amount directly to the bite several times a day until the bite injury is healed.

If the insect bite is pink, hot, and puffy, apply ice and take homeopathic Apis 30 C for relief. The dose is two pellets under the tongue, away from meals, twice daily for one to three days. Warning: Apis is made from bee venom, so do not use it if you are allergic to bees.

Spider bites carry a greater risk of local infection than other insect bites, so I prescribe Echinacea tincture applied full strength directly to spider bites several times a day and taken internally to boost your immune response. The typical adult internal dose of Echinacea tincture is 60 drops in 2 ounces of water, away from food, four times a day for up to a week.

With all insect bites use common sense, not only in prevention but also in treatment. If a bite is very painful, if you develop a fever, or the bite or surrounding tissue appears infected, see your doctor.

What Precedents Would Clarence Thomas Overturn Next?
    The New Yorker Radio Hour

Justice Clarence Thomas once was an outlier for his legal views. But Thomas is now the heart of the Court’s conservative bloc, and his concurring opinion in the recent abortion ruling calls out some other precedents the Court might overturn. Jeannie Suk Gersen teaches constitutional law at Harvard Law School and clerked for former Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court; she has been covering the end of Roe v. Wade for The New Yorker, and she spoke with David Remnick about Thomas’s concurrence. It articulates a view more extreme than Justice Alito’s majority opinion, saying that other rights derived from privacy—such as contraception and same-sex intimacy—are not constitutional rights at all. “We have to remember he’s been saying it out loud for quite some time,” Suk Gersen says. “This is not a new thing from Justice Thomas. It’s just that we normally—over decades—didn’t pay that much attention to him, because he was alone in his dissents and concurrences.”

What kind of details can tech support see if you are using an xfinity gateway. Always wondered if Comcast could see the devices connected and even if stuff like Wi-Fi signal strength is shown.
    3 hr. ago
They can see nearly everything about the gateways. They can see specs, history and devices connected to it. They can’t look at what you’re viewing, but can see your devices.
    2 hr. ago
They see basically the same thing you do if you login to the gateway at 10.0.0.1.
In fact, they’re just connecting to the same webserver in the gateway that provides you the 10.0.0.1 interface. They just get a slightly different / more advanced view of it.
In addition to what you see, they also see the hidden Wi-Fi networks (the hotspots and the home security), a few more advanced Wi-Fi settings (things like guard interval), and that’s about it. In fact, you can play around with your browser in development mode and get it to show you the additional stuff on your end too.

Yes and if they can throttle your usage / reduce speeds if you use a lot of data

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) – Parents of a girl who just turned 1 year old but suffers from permanent disabilities are suing their health care provider for wrongful life.

Danielle Claudat and Shane Sanders filed suit June 1 in San Francisco Superior Court against The Regents of the University of California on behalf of daughter Larkin, who was born June 2, 2021, with “genetic impairment.”

Their physicians at a University of California facility in San Francisco failed to adequately perform pre-natal care and diagnose the genetic issue, the lawsuit says.

They performed their jobs in “a careless and negligent manner all of which, among other things, directly and proximately resulted in certain permanent injury and disability,” the suit says. They failed to diagnose the issue and/or warn Larkin’s parents of the risk she would be born with genetic impairments, it adds.

“Had (the parents) known the likelihood that (Larkin) would have been born with said genetic impairments and/or disabilities, (they) would not have conceived (her) or would not have carried the fetus to term,” the suit says.

It adds they known have to pay “extraordinary expenses.” The plaintiffs are represented by Erik Peterson of Bostwick & Peterson

    • Zari says:

Great start. Those types of suits could be launched in those red states. But they will not work for long because those state legislatures will write laws to prevent such suits. Like the law on their books which makes it ok for a driver to run down demonstrators and makes the demonstrator hit by such a vehicle liable to the driver and guilty of a criminal offense for getting hit. Sick shit. But evidently not to sick for white women to support the white bastards who write such laws.

If anyone is taking up people, please limit the number of American white women to be brought up.

New Apple “Lockdown” Mode Blocks Mercenary Spyware
    ANDREW HEINZMAN

As part of its continued effort to fight government-funded mercenary spyware, Apple will offer a new “Lockdown Mode” in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura. The average person will never use this setting, but it should offer enhanced protection for common targets of global governments, such as journalists and dissidents.

It seems that the Pegasus spyware really pushed Apple over the edge. Developed by Israel’s NSO, Pegasus leverages zero-click vulnerabilities to break into Apple devices. It’s licensed to several foreign powers, including the United States and segments of the EU.

That said, Pegasus is best known for its association with the Saudi government. The spyware is regularly discovered on the phones of journalists and human rights activists in Saudi Arabia, including those who are jailed or murdered. (For what it’s worth, the Saudi government also hit Jeff Bezos with Pegasus or a similar spyware in 2018.)

Because mercenary spyware like Pegasus takes advantage of zero-click vulnerabilities (which are discovered by reverse-engineering Apple’s products), Lockdown Mode has to close these vulnerabilities. That means reduced functionality, especially when it comes to image or file previews, FaceTime calls, and JavaScript.

“Lockdown Mode is an extreme, optional protection that should only be used if you believe you may be personally targeted by a highly sophisticated cyberattack. Most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature.”

Apple also says that its dumping money into the Dignity and Justice Fund, which will attempt to fight mercenary spyware through education, coordination with advocacy groups, and the development of software forensic tools. But because mercenary spyware is such a powerful diplomatic and economic tool, Lockdown Mode looks to be the long-term solution for at-risk parties.

Lockdown Mode debuts with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura later this year. According to Apple, the capabilities of Lockdown Mode will grow to meet the threat of new spyware.
