Phelan/Quant questions the life of gods

I am LOVING this series! It came out in 2017, but I’m only just discovering it.

Britannia is set in 43 AD, when Rome invades Britain after Julius Caesar failed to conquer it 90 years earlier.

General Aulus Plautius and his second-in-command, Lucius, are determined to succeed where Julius Caesar failed, by any means necessary. An experienced warrior, Aulus establishes a fortified camp, gathers information from captives, even children, and learns that the Druids are the driving force behind the many tribes he faces. He determines that “you don’t conquer the people, you must conquer their gods.”

TRAILER: Britannia er et krigsdrama der rivalene Kerra og Antedia tvinges til å samarbeide for å bekjempe de invaderende styrkene ledet av Aulus Platius. Video: HBO Nordic

I am about half-way through Season 3. What a wild ride! And, a very entertaining story with some laugh out loud moments. It is available on Prime Video or EPIX. There is potential for a fourth season, but it’s not yet been confirmed.

    Sugar! Nasty history if true:

“ Despite the passing of more than 200 years since the Duke of Wellington’s triumph over Napoleon’s forces in 1815, only two skeletons of fallen men have been found, with the most recent discovery coming last month.
But now, bombshell new research suggests the remains of men and tens of thousands of horses are missing because they were ground down and used to filter brown sugar beet into refined white sugar.
The gruesome practice likely took place at other Napoleonic battle sites, with sugar factories existing close by.
The factory at Waterloo, in Belgium, was just three miles from the sites of mass graves from which the bones of fallen men and animals may have been taken.
The new research, which has been shared exclusively with MailOnline in the UK, was carried out by respected historians Dr Bernard Wilkin and Robin Schäfer, along with archaeologist Professor Tony Pollard, from the University of Glasgow.
The team discovered dozens of contemporary written accounts in Belgian, German and French archives that suggested the bones were plundered from 1834 onwards and used for the burgeoning sugar industry in Belgium.
Some of this sugar could also have ended up in Britain, for use in the production of sweet treats or to sweeten tea and coffee.
One written account, in the German newspaper Prager Tagblatt in 1879, noted that using honey to sweeten food avoided the risk of ‘having your great-grandfather’s atoms dissolved in your coffee one fine morning’. “

    JOKE:-
A fifteen-year-old Amish boy and his father were in a mall.
They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.

The boy asked, “What is this Father?”

The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, “Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don”t know what it is.”

While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheelchair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room.

The walls closed, and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially.

They continued to watch until it reached the last number, and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.

Finally, the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blonde stepped out.

The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son…

    “Go get your Mother.”

Jim decided to propose to Sandy, but prior to her acceptance.
Sandy had to confess to her man about her childhood illness.

She informed Jim that she suffered a disease that left her breasts at maturity of a 12 years old.

He stated that it was OK because he loved her so much.

“I too have a problem. My penis is the same size as an infant and I hope you could deal with that once we are married.”

She said, “Yes I will marry you and learn to live with your infant penis.”

Sandy and Jim got married and they could not wait so Jim whisked Sandy off to their hotel suite and they started touch teasing, holding one

      another.

As Sandy put her hands in Jim’s pants, she began to scream and ran out of the room!

Jim ran after her to find out what was wrong.

She said, “You told me your penis was the size of an infant!”

“Yes it is: 8 pounds, 7 ounces, 19 inches long!”

Although often erroneously called “CliffNotes”, the ubiquitous yellow study guides that generations of students have consulted are actually called “CliffsNotes” (as in Cliff’s Notes), named after the man, Clifton Hillegass, who created the study guides back in the late 1950s.

Despite the popular belief that dogs only see in black and white, it’s untrue. While dogs may not see the same range of color that humans do, they do perceive colors on par with a human suffering from red-green color blindness.

  4. T[9 says:

As to Britannia and the conquering of their gods, on the planet earth gods were necessary to enable men to from a society. Centering their beliefs around a deity enabled men to form a way to control their females so that men didn’t have to die or be maimed in combat for them. Prior to that men used to chase women around like a pack of wild dogs, killing and maiming each other for the right to fornicate with them. Religion gave them the ability to put women in a protective collective. They could put words in the mouths of their gods that said that those women had to fornicate only with men of that collective under penalty of death.
Religion gave men a way to form laws according to the words they put into those gods mouths. Since it was implied that the gods were always looking, it could be counted on to force most of the collective to obey those laws without having to be watched constantly. The more fierce the gods would be if disobeyed the better chance that the god’s law would be obeyed without the subject being constantly monitored.
Those collectives would form larger societies that would become “civilized” because of their collective belief in a god or gods.
Many civilizations then set about trying to force others to act in ways that showed obedience to their gods. Hence “civilized” came to mean forcing other collections of peoples to accept the laws of the gods of their conquerors.

Update Your iPhone, Mac, or iPad Now to Fix Zero-Day Exploit
      CORBIN DAVENPORT

Security vulnerabilities are discovered constantly in web browsers, and Apple just patched an exploit in Safari that was being used in the wild. Now’s the time to update your Apple devices.

      How to Update an iPhone
Apple released Safari 15.6.1 this week, which includes a fix for a security vulnerability labelled as CVE-2022-32893. The bug allowed malicious web pages to execute code on devices, using an out-of-bounds write issue in Safari’s WebKit rendering engine. Apple says it is “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.”

Unlike Chrome, Firefox, and most other web browsers, new versions of Safari are mostly distributed through operating system updates. Apple has released macOS Monterey 12.5.1, iOS 15.6.1, and iPadOS 15.6.1 with the fix for Safari, as well as other security updates. There are also security updates rolling out for older versions of macOS, including Big Sur and Catalina.

You should update your Mac, iPhone, and/or iPad once you have some free time. iPhones and iPads use the WebKit engine to render all web pages, even if you use other apps for web browsing, like Firefox or Chrome. Mac owners that use third-party browsers are at a lower risk, but Safari is still used for login pages and other embedded web content across macOS.

You misunderstand Putin’s real goal with this war.
Putin did not think that Russia would be better off after such a war. Putin saw this war as a necessity to preserve his absolute power over Russia in the long run…
Putin could not bear to see a democracy developing in a neighboring country. The risk was too great in his eyes that the Russian people would end up being inspired.

What would have happened to the dictator Putin if the Russian people had finally been inspired by a neighboring democracy? Putin could have seen the people rise up to obtain equivalent freedoms.

For a dictator like Putin, this was clearly inconceivable. Putin therefore followed the path of all dictators who feel threatened: strengthening power internally by locking up information and reinforcing police and judicial repression. Then, creating a fictitious external enemy so that the people feel afraid and obliged to place themselves behind the protection of the tyrant.

Putin always says that the West wants to destroy Russia. This rhetoric is nothing new in the history of dictators.
Putin then started this war and cannot stop, because the risk is too great that he will lose his power in the Kremlin. Putin will go to the end, because in his eyes, there is no other alternative!

Is it healthy to walk faster or longer?
    WALK FASTER VS WALK LONGER

    walk faster:
Walking has proven to be an excellent way to stay fit and healthy, and several studies have shown how walking can improve mental and physical health, making it one of the most popular forms of aerobic exercise a person does. However, the pace at which everyone walks is not always the same. This raises a question. Does speed matter? And the answer is “yes.” The faster the pace, the better the benefits of walking, according to a report by time now news.

    What is brisk walking?
Walking at a fast pace is known as brisk walking, and people practice it in different forms and combinations such as pure brisk walking, alternating between brisk walking and leisure walking, alternating between brisk walking and jogging, and during brisk walking it is important to have the correct technique. Here are some tips for effective brisk walking:

Make sure your body is relaxed.
Your vision should be forward, head, and neck relaxed.
Your arms should relax and swing while walking.
Ensure that your body is in an upright position with your back straight.
Use and exercise your toes and feet completely while walking.
    Benefits of brisk walking:

Heart health: Brisk walking can help manage blood sugar and stress, reduce the risk of obesity or weight gain, and improve immunity. These benefits can help maintain a healthy and active heart and thus reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Weight management: If you are working on a weight loss plan, making brisk walking a part of your regular schedule can help burn calories and fat faster and thus aid weight management.

May Help Longevity: A strong, capable body has the ability to stay healthy for a longer period of time. By improving physical and mental health, brisk walking can help with longevity.

    walk longer:
Research has proven that walking daily for 30-60 minutes is one of the best exercises we do. Some may underestimate its benefits because it is just a walking exercise, but walking long distances regularly gives the body countless benefits, and is especially useful in dispelling stress and getting rid of anxiety and depression. Going out to nature and exploring its space, directing attention to the surrounding environment helps to release the mental tension accumulated throughout the day. What are the benefits of hiking?

    The benefits of prolonged walking

The potential benefits of taking long walks regularly include:

    • Giving the body more energy

    • Promote blood circulation: Prolonged walking contributes to improving blood flow, and walking 15 minutes after dinner enhances blood circulation to different parts of the body.

    • Enhance heart efficiency: Walking may help prevent heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, and can also help promote healthy cholesterol levels.

    • Enhancing the brain’s oxygen supply: Walking helps supply the brain with more oxygen, and therefore it may improve cognitive function, especially when any symptoms of dementia or a decline in mental abilities appear.

    • Helping to lose weight: The practice of walking after eating helps to burn calories that will lose weight, which helps in relieving pressure on the joints and increasing their strength, and thus alleviating the pain in the knees.

    • Improving sleep quality: Feeling stressed can often prevent you from falling asleep. As long walks reduce stress, it helps improve sleep. A study published in BMJ Open in 2016 indicated that walking can improve sleep quality. The study participants walked 10,000 steps per day for 4 weeks, improving indicators of sleep quality, increasing the number of hours, and reducing sleep latency (Sleep). latency), which is the length of time required to transition from wakefulness to sleep.

    • Promote joint health: People with arthritis are often advised to engage in low-intensity exercise, such as walking, to help improve health without exacerbating pain. A study published in the Annals of internal medicine indicated that walking can help relieve joint pain and ease exacerbation of arthritis-related symptoms in people with osteoarthritis of the knee.

    • Strengthening the body’s stamina: This helps to increase the body’s fitness.

    • Controlling the level of blood sugar: Walking helps remove glucose from the bloodstream, especially in diabetic patients who suffer from high blood sugar. It helps burn excess sugar, and this is very useful, because it prevents this excess from turning into fat or cholesterol, thus reducing the risk of obesity. A study published in the journal Diabetes care in 2016. It was conducted on a group of people with a sedentary lifestyle, who suffer from diabetes and overweight. Walking helped lower blood sugar and insulin levels.

    • Reducing stress: These are the best hiking benefits of all. We experience huge amounts of stress every day, both mentally and physically, and a long walk may be the best way to get rid of mental tension every day. Walking also boosts oxygen, but it doesn’t require much effort. It is also useful in reducing cortisol levels, and supports the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps deep sleep and improves mood.

The man left the confessional, said his prayers, and then walked over to the poor box. He paused for a moment and then started to leave.

The priest, who was watching, quickly ran over to him saying, ‘I saw that. You didn’t put any money in the poor box!

After considering the position he is in, the man replies “OK. How much?”

“Twenty-five dollars,” the little boy replies.

“TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS?!” the man repeats incredulously but complies to protect his hidden position.

The following week, the lover is visiting the woman again when she hears a car in the driveway and, again, places her lover in the closet with her little boy.

“It’s dark in here, isn’t it?” the boy starts off.

“Yes it is,” replies the man.

“Wanna buy a baseball glove? ” the little boy asks.

“OK. How much?” the hiding lover responds, acknowledging his disadvantage.

“Fifty dollars,” the boy replies, and the transaction is completed.

The next weekend, the little boy’s father says “Hey son, go get your ball and glove and we’ll play some catch.”

“I can’t. I sold them,” replies the little boy.

“How much did you get for them?,” asks the father, expecting to hear the profit in terms of lizards and candy.

“Seventy-five dollars,” the little boy says.

“SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLARS?! That’s thievery! I’m taking you to church right now. You must confess your sin and ask for forgiveness,” the father explains as he hauls the child away.

At the church, the little boy goes into the confessional, draws the curtain, sits down, and says “It’s dark in here, isn’t it?”

Which chemical is the most dangerous on Earth?
When someone says “dangerous chemical” people often think of chemicals like cyanide, arsenic, or tetrodotoxin.
And yes, those are pretty poisonous but they aren`t even close to the most dangerous of them all.

The most poisonous and lethal chemical is Botulinum toxin. In fact 1 nanogram per kilogram can kill a healthy human. At first it was discovered as cause of food poisoning in the late 18s due to incorrectly prepared sausage in Germany.

But later Professor Emile Van Ermengem first isolated the bacterium Clostridium botulinum
Despite how dangerous and lethal this chemical is, nowadays it is used by many people who want to “freeze” their faces from getting old by injecting very small doses of it.

The modern medicine calls it Botox.

  10. Robert says:

Xi Jinping is well bothered by Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

First of all, there is this partnership without limits reminded the world at the beginning of February 2022. China needs a strong Russia, but not too strong. Enough to be an important military power and to allow China to have an ally of circumstance to better try to challenge the American domination of the world.

China also needs Russia to secure its hydrocarbon supplies.

For the rest, the EU is much more important to China than Russia. Why is that? It is with the EU that China does business and for Xi Jinping, the most important thing is to weigh in economically and in trade. China intends to surpass America, not by waging war like Putin, but rather through trade and economy.

Xi Jinping finds Putin’s warlike attitude regrettable, because it ultimately strengthens NATO, and thus America, which has regained its grip on the EU and Europe through Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Worse still, America has made the fight against the ever-growing influence of China in the Indo-Pacific a top priority for NATO. This is astonishing because this is not normally the scope of NATO, but America is in a strong position. This is how it can impose on Europe what it now wants!

Xi Jinping learns from Putin’s war in Ukraine and understands that taking control of Taiwan by force would not be a good thing. Xi Jinping and the CCP will know how to be patient. Something Putin lacks.

For Xi Jinping, however, it is out of the question to let go of Russia now, as this would lead to a victory of the West over Russia. This would be the worst thing for Xi Jinping because it would strengthen America. But Xi Jinping wants to weaken America. Xi Jinping is therefore stuck and has to continue to support Russia, hoping that this war will end as soon as possible so that he can concentrate again on business, which is China’s priority.

If Putin likes to make war, Xi Jinping’s priority is the growth of the Chinese economy!

The Benefits of a warm glass of lemon juice every morning:

Drink water with lemon on an empty stomach, do you know what benefits it has?

There are many urban legends when one wants to start taking care of oneself, but nevertheless there is one that is real: drinking water with lemon on an empty stomach every morning is beneficial for our body -although there are exceptions-. Today we will show you what it takes to apply this practice every morning, something that we can adapt to our daily routine without any effort, do you dare?

    Preparation method

Although its preparation is very simple, the water must be lukewarm since if it is cold water our body takes time to process it and needs more energy. The lemons will have to be fresh, organic and natural -avoid processed and bottled lemon juices-. We will only have to squeeze half a lemon in a glass of warm water and drink it 30 minutes before breakfast (completely fasting).

The benefits of a simple gesture

They help us lose weight. Drinking water with lemon on an empty stomach provides us with more satiety during the day and prevents us from consuming more calories than necessary. Additionally, maintaining a more alkaline diet has been shown to help you lose weight faster. According to a study carried out by the ‘Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition’, it was confirmed that the polyphenols in the lemon peel prevented the subjects from accumulating extra fat for 12 weeks.

Radiant skin. Lemon contains a lot of vitamin C, which means that it helps reduce wrinkles and blemishes, in addition to fighting free radicals. It should be said that vitamin C has beneficial effects on the production of collagen (that element that keeps our skin elastic).

Prevents constipation and improves digestion. Drinking a glass of water with lemon every morning helps to eliminate toxins from our body. In addition, it relieves the symptoms of indigestion -burning or abdominal distention-.

Restores the pH of the body. If we adapt this practice regularly, we will be able to eliminate the total acidity of the body thanks to the citric acid and ascorbic acid that each lemon contains.

Prevents diseases. As we have already mentioned, lemon contains ascorbic acid, which improves the absorption of iron in the body -something basic for our immune function-.

Freshens our breath. Drinking water with lemon every morning we disinfect the mucous membranes and that helps reduce the proliferation of bacteria in the oral cavity.

It is a good director. It combines the effects of increased water consumption with the diuretic properties of lemon, thus eliminating more toxins.

Helps improve our mood. Lemon contains negatively charged ions, that makes our body have more energy when it enters the digestive tract. As if that were not enough, it helps us reduce anxiety and depression.

    there are contraindications

This practice is good for our body, although there are exceptions. Avoid drinking water with lemon every morning if:

You have stomach ulcers. Citric acid can aggravate this condition.
Tooth sensitivity. Avoid drinking lemon water if you suffer from weak teeth or damaged tooth enamel.
Inflammation of the prostate or urethra. The symptoms will increase.
    If you suffer from acidity.
If you suffer from rheumatic, arthritic or osteoporosis diseases..
If you have anemia or lack of a mineral such as calcium.
When you have gastritis. Symptoms may increase.
Sores or wounds in the wedding and/or tongue.
There are two things you need to know: drinking lemon water on an empty stomach has benefits for your health, but you must be careful with your tooth enamel. On the one hand, lemon helps to strengthen the immune system thanks to its contribution of Vitamin C and also to fight against free radicals that are responsible for premature aging. If we add to this the moisturizing and dragging properties of water, we have the perfect combination.

Thus, these are some of the benefits of drinking a glass of water with half a lemon on an empty stomach daily.

    – Strengthens the immune system. The vitamin C and ascorbic acid that the lemon contains contribute to the prevention of colds and a better absorption of iron.

    – Alkalizing power. If you suffer from imbalances in pH, you will easily get sick. Lemon is alkalizing and helps keep the pH balanced. Of course, remember that if we ingest it in excess we can obtain the opposite effect.

    – A natural diuretic. Combining water with lemon helps eliminate toxins and prevents fluid retention.

    – Improves digestion. If we consume the warm we will be able to stimulate the intestinal tract, while the contribution of lemon helps to purify the liver.

    – Beautify the skin. Water with lemon brings luminosity to the face. Dehydration of the body leaves the skin dull, opaque and without light.

    – Provides extra energy. Substituting coffee for hot water with lemon is more energizing than you think, since its consumption helps to hydrate and oxygenate the blood.

    – It’s an emergency kit. Consuming several glasses of water with lemon (the amount should be determined by a specialist) throughout the day combats bad breath, constipation and helps offset the dehydrating effects of alcohol.

Although it is a beneficial practice for health, it is true that experts advise against doing it in these cases:

    – If you have anemia or lack of any mineral such as calcium.

    – If you suffer from gastritis or frequent heartburn.

    – If you suffer from dental sensitivity, damaged enamel or weak teeth.

    – If you have sores or wounds in your mouth or tongue.

    – If you have stomach ulcers.

    – If you suffer from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis or rheumatic diseases.

    – If you suffer from inflammation of the prostate or urethra.

What should we do about the humans that were left behind? The only survivors will be people in low target value areas, and cockroaches and rats and some sea life. Climate effects from airborne dusts and aerosols would negatively affect agriculture and most other plant growth. Any surviving life forms would have a harsh environment to try to live in.

Will they be able to continue the food supply for those of us who depend upon them as a source of food? Will we be responsible for their continuous existence?

  14. Charlie says:

One quite dangerous myth is that Russian army is made of a bunch of incompetent drunken morons and it’s facing a battle-hardned NATO army in Ukraine.

The truth is more nuanced than this. While it is true many Russian units are poorly trained, horribly led, have no discipline to speak of, some of their formations fight with distinction and perform very well when stressed. The VDV took Hostomel airport amidst heavy resistance and held it for days, waiting for reinforcements to arrive. It is estimated they lost half their number before being forced to retreat, most formations fall apart at 10–20% casualties. Some Russian formations are (or were?) as dangerous and as disciplined as any. It is also not true all Russians can muster at this point are old equipment from 1960s. They are bringing up stuff from 60 years ago to the front line yes, but it’s not evident that forms the bulk of their equipment, whereas APCs and tanks from that era can still be quite useful in secondary tasks, freeing up the modern formations to fight elsewhere. Russian army has badly trained and poorly equipped formations, but they also have proffessional and well equipped units.

Similarily, it is absolutely not true Ukrainian army is entirely composed of highly trained professionals. While their training is better, on average, to what Russians get, much of their army is haphazardly trained and poorly equipped militia that doesn’t lack fighting spirit, but everything else. Ukraine has sufficient (and merely sufficient) small arms, but sorely lacks heavy equipment. Most of their formations are, at best, somewhat better equipped and trained than average Russian formations and suitable only to hold ground, not assault serious fortifications. Ukraine also lacks heavy equipment of all kinds and doesn’t shy away from APCs built in 1960s or indeed field guns from 1945, for a lack of better options. What they do have is NATO support and a small array of modern weapons that they entrusted to their very best (best trained, led and organized) formations, leading to fairly spectacular results. Ukrainian high command is competent, but their means are rather limited.

This is why the war is so static, neither side has the means of exploiting a major breakthrough. Even if one side, be it Russia or Ukraine, would manage to punch through the lines of the other side with an iron fist, they could not exploit the breakthrough. The attack would be checked by a combination of effective light infantry, artillery and air power of the other side, the only thing different would be the ratios between these (Ukrainians would use more light infantry, Russia more air power). The end result the same: only minor gains would be secured, against heavy losses.

That’s why Ukrainian offensive around Kherson is so slow: Ukraine lacks heavy weapons to break through Russian lines and exploit that, while Russia still has those aplenty. Unless Russian domestic front collapses, or else we get serious about supporting Ukraine with heavy weapons, the war could indeed take years.

When in human form, you can calm a panicky human down with a hug. But you must make sure that it lasts for at least 20 seconds.
When a hug lasts 20 seconds, it has a therapeutic effect on the human body and mind. The reason is that a sincere hug produces a hormone called “oxytocin”, also known as the love hormone.

This substance has many benefits on our physical and mental health, it helps humans to relax, feel safe and calm their fears and anxieties.

Since we are operating in this solar system, from now on we will express a Light Year in terms of the Earth’s distance from the Sun, an AU.
During our time here the new definition of will be a single light year is equal to 63,241 AU (ONE SINGLE LIGHT YEAR), and one AU is equal to the distance between the earth and the sun, which is approximately 149 million kilometers, or 92,584,307.6 miles.
